Fancu a threesome?

Okay - the cheap title got your attention, but it is relevant... honest...

If you're doing a runner (by which I mean a repeating series of sketches in 1 episode) for a sketch show is it usually accepted that they're 3-parters?

I think they often are, but is a 2-parter spread through an episode a runner? Are 4 parters a no-no? Any other 'rules'/accepted wisdom that I should know about them?

And yeah - it's TSWYW related....

EDIT - Damn - it would have helped if I hadn't typo'd 'fancy' in the title... Not sure I can edit the thread title...

The only thing I know about runners is each sketch needs to have different jokes, but have the same thread. I was told it's no point producing three sketches with a variation of the same joke. So if you can do it for 4 sketches why not

I submitted a runner for S2 of TSWYW, but all three parts were submitted in one Word doc and they all fit on 2 pages total.

Most sketch shows with runners I've seen/heard have had them in three parts. I don't think this is an unbreakable rule but it is a pattern for a reason. Just like the rule of three for joke writing three is the minimum number to set up and then subvert a pattern. And the fourth sketch of a runner would have to be REALLY good and interesting to make me not think "I've seen it already."

I do realise that this too late to help!

Thanks all for your help/comments.

Likewise - which is why I asked...

The 4-parter I was on about works well imo with the 3 parts, then the 4th part is a 3 or 4 liner that spins it in a different direction. It's almost just a topper.

Not at all - it all gets stored for future use!
