Groucho Marx.......
Wow. Seeing someone complain about the word "motherf**ker" and actually feeling the need to star it out is just so... quaint. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw someone get so upset about that word.
On another note, what exactly is the point of starring out swear words? You think anyone who comes to this forum won't be familiar with the word? I mean, seriously, anyone old enough to read and move a mouse is going to have heard that word these days.
I'm honestly not trying to offend you, Hercules (although I'm not massively bothered by the near certainty that I have), but you do seem to be exceptionally easily offended by swearing compared to the vast majority of people. I found it interesting that you said the word has no place on a *British* forum, I wonder what exactly you meant by that? Why would it have less place on a British forum than any other English speaking forum?

I was told to chill out and move on, which I have tried to do and was hoping that this was dead and buried, and I am certainly not offended by swearing - far from it.
This was an American term that I was exposed to during 20 odd years of working and living with American servicemen on their bases in this country -I didn't like then and still don't. It's very meaning is......well, I'm sorry but I find it a very offensive term, end of.
Ok fair enough
I suppose if you think of it literally it is indeed bloody disgusting.
I just hear it as another swear word though. Like, if I called someone a silly f**ker, I wouldn't literally mean that they f**ked in a silly manner. It's just a generic insult.
So, you silly f**kers, can I join the infamous and secret George Roper-Clique?
Quote: Hercules Grytpype Thynne @ 22nd February 2014, 9:37 AM GMTthere IS a clique operating within the forum, although understandably "the clique" would deny this, and they are the long standing members who noticeably guffaw at each other's postings but seem to disdain anything from newer members.
I'd only just returned to the forum and missed all the hoo-ha with Horseradish. Is there a clique on this forum? Probably, there's a clique within any group a certain size.
Are new comers routinely ignored? Not if they have something funny or interesting to say.
Does bullying go on? You bet, but as Johnny Cash so eloquently put it 'if you're gonna be dumb then you gotta be tough'.
Still confused over how motherf**ker could be considered more offensive then shitc**t though. Maybe I'm a prude?
What the nun-arse-rape is offensive about shitc**t?
Quote: Raymond Terrific @ 27th February 2014, 10:14 PM GMTOk fair enough
Thank you.....

As Vic would say on Big Night Out "You wouldn't let it lie!" - SO....(not to you personally zooo)
Yes, indeed - it implies of course that YOU f**k your Mother, and yes, it has become generic but that doesn't make it any less distasteful - anything else is fair game as far as I am concerned, but that..............
We (well some of us) have become inured to that particular expression, which happens when something is repeated often enough and people lose sight of what it really means.
You could say it was a generation thing. I recently watched and listened in dismay at a boy who couldn't have been anymore than 11 years old giving a girl of similar age a double handed "the finger" sign and shouting at the top of his voice "F**k You" repeatedly - I wonder what his parents would make of their little innocent darling if they had seen him. At that age I had never heard the word, let alone use it.
I am presently reading the biog. of Harry H Corbett, by his daughter Susannah, and in that she mentions that when the second episode of the first series of Steptoe "The Piano" went out in 1962, the piano they were trying to move got stuck in a doorway, Harold was heard to say "Bleedin'", which caused concern, (!) but that's the way it was in those early days of TV. Move forward three years and Kenneth Tynan becomes the first person (a lot of TV was live then) to say F**k on television. And so on and so on, the words become more common on TV and lose their impact - only last week I heard the word C**t used on TV, which a few years ago would have been an absolute no-no. Swear words are a form of verbal violence, which we use to upset someone who has upset us or against some inanimate object, which makes us feel better having released the tension, and with a bit of luck we walk away physically unharmed; but the more commonplace swearing becomes, the more it loses its impact, and the only thing that is left is physical violence. There is no safety valve.
What has surprised me in all this is that I seem to be the only person on the BCG forums that thinks MF is OTT - haven't had much support for my view.
Quote: Gordon Bennett @ 27th February 2014, 10:39 PM GMTSo, you silly f**kers, can I join the infamous and secret George Roper-Clique?
........Er, no. I think not.. tiresome now, and if you had read the posts in depth you would have seen that George is in a clique of his own and is the only member.

Well, if you can't see why you are confused, I don't know what else to say to you - you happy that someone would think that you would f**k your Mother?
Quote: Raymond Terrific @ 28th February 2014, 12:17 AM GMTWhat the nun-arse-rape is offensive about shitc**t?
Totally agree.

If you had read all the posts carefully you'd realize my post was meant ironically.
And if you had read some of the reactions of BCG members to Roper's posts in the past this disturbingly strange thread wouldn't exist.
Quote: Hercules Grytpype Thynne @ 28th February 2014, 12:30 PM GMT- it implies of course that YOU f**k your Mother
That's your inference, but if you insist on being strictly accurate (as you seem to), it could simply describe the loving relationship between a mother and a father.

Oh dear, here we go again - just where did I say that I insist on being strictly accurate? Whatever that means.
And two - PERRRR........LEASE how the f**k do you come to that conclusion? So what you are saying is that everytime you/me/anyone hears that shouted out, we can take comfort in the knowledge that it is someone shouting about what some man is doing to his wife...........
Quote: Hercules Grytpype Thynne @ 22nd February 2014, 9:37 AM GMTI it highlighted a concern of mine that there IS a clique operating within the forum,

You had a deprived and sheltered childhood. I recall using the word "c**t" in the playground on my first day at school to impress some older kids. These days I just try to say it in different languages. I don't think muthaf**ka need have incestuous connotations. Could be f**king someone else's mother.
