A Song for Madeleine

Removed in the interests of world peace and board harmony.

A bit of banter is great fun but when you add threats of violence to personal insult and follow that by attacking any other board member who suggest the piece has merit, it's time to draw a veil over this controversial work.

Tomorrow is another day.

May peace be upon you.

Hmmm not the best Madeline joke going, and you overplay the nastiness, to the detriment of the humour.

Are you messing with us all, in a slightly evil kick off a fight kinda way?

MM, I thought it was off the mark in that it was harsh without being funny. And it repeated the same basically unfunny thing. I think material has to be very cleverly written to work in this situation and I don't think this is. Having said that, I'm not sure the McCanns are really ripe targets for this sort of satire at all.

It's not easy being crap. :(

Care to dig up the mighty 89 post Maddy Audition thread, my own misbegotten child

Grim. Not funny, the digs at the family are nothing new. In fact, the only fresh element is having ago at the kid based on her appearance. Not sure she's a legitimate target and not sure what making her one archives?

Practice practice, and soon you'll be as crap as me, practice!

My own personal view of comedy is - if you're not offending anybody, you're not doing it right.

If the McCanns were 'normal' grieving parents, they'd be almost untouchable as targets or components of satire but they're raking in millions on the back of this poor child's death/disappearance and they're doing it shamelessly.

If they were working class, they'd have been prosecuted for neglect of those children.

Pass the ammunition!

Nothing personal, M Lewis, but it IS a comedy forum. ;)

Sad sick c-nt.

Lets see you write about it when your kid goes missing , you should get a good hiding.

I love it.

No review has ever made me prouder.

I've just printed it off and stuck it on the wall. Laughing out loud

I don't think there's any topic that can't be used as the basis of humour. As they say, tragedy + time = comedy. There have been plenty of 9/11 jokes and stand-up routines after all.

There was also a comedian who caused an outcry by doing a Reece Jones (is that his name?) gag in Liverpool.

But, there has to be a point and it has to be funny. I'm not sure this achieves either. Even without the shock value, the verses aren't amusing and I can't imagine this ever being performed without a lynching a happening.

Fundamentally, I think there's a big difference between doing a Maddie joke as a one-liner in a stand-up routine and doing a whole song on her disappearance simply to slander her parents. You could get away with a good joke (though a few might object), however the song is unperformable unless all you value is shock over comedy.

Maybe. Try looking in the mirror.
