Captions

I'm writing a script which will show a closed door with a series of captions;

"5 minutes"

"10 minutes"

"15 minutes"

With each caption, I'd like a specific sound effect. What's the best way of representing this in a script?

I guess it would be something along the lines of:

CAPTION: "5 minutes later."

FX: Your sound effect here.

TIME JUMP TO:

CAPTION: "10 minutes later."

FX: Your sound effect here.

TIME JUMP TO:

CAPTION: "15 minutes later."

FX: Your sound effect here.

Is the sound/music meant to be coming through the door.

I doubt if there is a standardised way of representing this in a script so just put something like:

INT -- Dracula's Castle -- DAY

All we see is a closed door

OVERLAY CAPTION: 5 Minutes

The music of "The Blue Danube" is heard through the door.

OVERLAY CAPTION: 10 Minutes

The sound of Elvis singing "Jailhouse Rock" is heard through the door

etc
etc

The door opens and we see Count Dracula in his pyjamas

.

:S

Excellent. Thanks guys.

Billwill, have you seen my script?

The door opens and we see Count Dracula in his pyjamas

Oh no. Not another vampire show!

:P
