I read the news today oh boy! Page 1,424

Twitter in the news again -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25881508

A Liberal Democrat candidate is being de-selected and faces death threats for Tweeting a cartoon of Jesus and Mohammed.

And -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25886026

The man and woman who sent death threats to Caroline Criado-Perez were given 12 and 8 weeks jail time respectively.

In both cases, the Tweeters stated a personal opinion that upset a minority of people, in both cases they received death threats and in both cases the police were called in. One lost his job and was told not to appear on television, the other was called brave and appeared on television loads.

How strange.

I'm confused, if you're suggesting the people who made death threats about the Mohammed cartoon. Then you're completely correct and the police should arrest people who commit crimes whatever the cultural sensitivities.

No, I'm just confused with the Lib Dems de-selecting him as a candidate, effectively punishing him for exercising his free speech in a democratic society.

In contrast, the other Tweeter who did exactly the same thing was held up as some sort of hero, paraded on television and her detractors jailed. Additionally, Twitter itself came under scrutiny and was forced to change the way it operates in the UK.

One case promoted outrage, the other has been quietly swept under the carpet. Just find it all a bit odd.

Again I'm completely lost.

Really.

Who's celebrating them, they're going to prison.

Caroline Criado-Perez is going to prison?

The point I think I'm trying to make is that there is a massive inconsistency when it comes to protecting free speech on Twitter. That gutless politicians and campaigners will go all out for the 'easy' cause, but suddenly shrivel up and run away when a more thorny but equally justifiable cause comes along.

Nigel Farage is bringing back private legal ownership of handguns! First smoking in pubs and now guns, if I could vote for him twice, I bloody would.

*fires imaginary guns into the air, until Nige gets in, then fires real guns into the air*

Do you ever think as one of their few voters whose not at deaths door, Nigel's doing this just for you?

Next he'll be offering to buy you a pint and do your washing up

UKIP is my version of the Make A Wish Foundation - democracy, freedom of choice, treating citizens like responsible adults, it's to good to be true, like when Paris was liberated from the dreaded Bosch.

Dogs act like compass needles when doing a poo
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/science/article3964190.ece

After making almost 2,000 observations over the course of two years scientists have found that dogs have a "highly significant axial preference for North-South alignment during defecation". Although they don't have particularly strong feelings about whether their poo drops in the direction of the Arctic or the Antarctic, provided the Earth's magnetic field is stable it has to be one pole or the other: the researchers found that they rarely relieved themselves while either extremity was facing east.

Now the scientists from the University of Duisberg Essen are calling on readers of The Times to send in their own defecation data to help to firm up the result.

If the discovery that dogs act like compass needles when they feel the urge has come as something of a surprise to scientists, the fact that they may be sensitive to magnetic fields has not.

"It is highly probable that wolves use magnetic fields to help with navigation," said Pascal Malkemper, a PhD student and author of the study. "There are a lot of anecdotal stories of dogs returning home from large distances. Maybe their ancestors had big ranges, and used this as navigation."

:O

Don't worry keewik, when Scotland gets independence next year, you won't have to worry about Nigel Farage.

An open door border policy combined with some of juiciest benefits in Europe is all you'll need to worry about.

I don't think we will get independence, unfortunately. Too many wimps frightened to take the step into the unknown. I've recently decided to vote yes because I'm disgusted at the state of Britain.

RCP you've reached a point of obtuseness you actually make little sense.

So you're comparing a Lib Dem who put up a joke about Mohammed, which is a silly thing to do and not worth of sacking.

And someone who said can we have one famous woman on our currency.

I'm lost I'm sure you're desperately trying to annoy someone, but how, why what for, do you think if you drive us nuts we'll go insane and then we'll vote for Nigel Farrage.

A man so louche he not only is unaware what his relatively small number of elected members do or say. But he doesn't even know what his parties manifesto was from 3 years ago.

I can only imagine the reason he wants to legalise handguns is so he can blow his own brains out whilst smoking a fag in a pub.

State of Britain eh, well I've seen Braveheart and Rab C Nesbitt you've nothing to be proud of.

Is there a Scottish Comedy Guide you'll be able to join? ;)

It's called Hollyrood
