Everyone takes in bits and is influenced by those who went before. Including The Pythons and The Bonzos.

Looking forward to this.
I note from the trailer that they appear to have based the design for the front room set on the one from Sykes. Which I assume is an homage.
Quote: Alfred J Kipper @ 4th January 2014, 11:07 AM GMTI don't mind Reeves & Mortimer and their shows but have always found them incredibly unoriginal, having nicked their slapstick act from Mayal & Edmondson and their compere act from Morecambe & Wise. It seems to me, that is. But it seems so blaringly obvious to me, I don't know how they've got away with it for so long. Funny at times without being very talented at all, imo, they've been very lucky.
Same can be said of Harry Enfield, and Paul Whitehouse!

Indeed. And many examples of acts who pre-date/inspired the cited double acts.

Quote: Charlie Boy @ 3rd January 2014, 11:27 AM GMTThe trailer looks crap!
The trailer does look crap. I am wary because on the face of it, I so want this to be brilliant but so far, it's not blowing my skirt up. You might say that it's impossible to judge a show from a trailer alone, but there are warning signs that the humour might be more self consciously 'wacky' then thought provokingly surreal.
I think Reeves and Mortimer are excellent comedians, writers and actors but the trailer doesn't fill me full of confidence.

God help us, we don't want 'wacky' but they were always a LONG way from being thought provoking!
I just like the idea - a load of daft people getting in the way of Bob having a nice night with his lass. Something like that, anyway.
Maybe I sounded too harsh on them. I actually find them funny at times if very silly. Yes the slapstick thing didn't belong to M&E, they just cartooned it up a bit, I suppose anyone can choose to do the same, but then again, how much of that do you want before you get tired of it? But okay let's see how good/bad this show is.
Love Vic & Bob, it's been far too long since they've had something other than Shooting Stars on the telly.
Quote: Alfred J Kipper @ 4th January 2014, 11:38 AM GMTBut on the Reeves/Morecambe thing it is an oft said comparison, not merely my thoughts. He's not the only one who's modelled himself on an earlier popular act though, quite a lot of comedians have done it to some extent. I think it should be a hotter potato than joke stealing, which seems to really rile modern comedians. I think they should be more worried about act or style stealing because it definitely goes on, almost uncontested. Reeves will know it, he may not want to confess to it yet but he knows it.
Everybody agrees with you off stage Alfred . Funny that.
From the trailers this looks great.
Vic and Bob, Dan Skinner and Matt Berry. A dream team.
And um, thingy. Wotserface Morgana. She's good n'all.
Just Googled her. Don't think I saw her show.
She did, and this is a compliment, an amazing impression of Russell Brand that rather sticks in the memory. (And lots of other good stuff.)

Her Danny Dyer is bloody brilliant too -
