Oh and quite apart from that, those army webbing belts are really tough material; two layers of webbing stitched together, (I know 'cos I used to be in the Combined Cadet Force at school and had to clean & wear the pesky things).
I very much doubt that you would pierce one easily, even with a very narrow very sharp blade. I suspect that you would have to hit the belt with a force of at least 30 lbs to go through the belt and what victim would not notice the photographer bashing him that hard in the belt region?

I didn't pick up on that either, and also thought that the whole point was that only the major survived, with severe injuries.

Usually, though Moffat is often better at opening eps than final ones; this is the first series end ep of Sherlock he's done. Looks like it's going to be heavier than the first two, anyway. Perhaps the lighter stuff was buttering us up for a harder fall. I certainly think something is either up with Watson's wife, or something is going to happen to her. Apparently the big bad for the last ep had a telegram read out by Sherlock at the wedding...
