Matt, Dan & indeed Marc Blake are all talented people. Everyone needs to pay the rent, so I hope you newbies all use their services. Then again, they should all be still working in getting their own stuff produced - in whatever 'media'.

Nothing to look down your nose at though, they are simply adding another string to their bows as it were.

I'm not being supercilious - sorry if it came across that way. I'm just more comfortable with writers writing than not writing. I'd hate to think of these guys spending more time polishing turds than pursuing their dreams. Call me an idealist if you want, but we all have but a dismally limited time upon this annoying little disappointing planet...

Anyway, Merry Christmas!

I always think of supercillious as a particularly foolish super hero, super silly arse.

If I wrote a script about him, I wonder who'd edit it.

Many would argue that being a Script Editor is very much progression for a budding writer following their dreams. And I'm sure one can do both anyway :)

Well Many would be wrong.

;)

I guess it depends whose script they're editing...

I have edited a few scripts in my time. Often failing to resist the impulse to rewrite. Usually though it is the pruning that helps the most. Think of Rodin.

This is why I'm not a huge porn star. :(

Have your tried auditioning for smaller parts?

Or Van Gogh.

What's the main aim of a script editor? To tighten up dialogue, plot and action? Or to suggest wholesale changes to the writer?

Depends on the script. Basically, to help try and improve the show in whatever way seems appropriate and right for the script you've just read. Some need more help than others, and in different ways. You might find yourself suggesting a complete rethink of the show, giving them ideas and options for what they could do.

So Stott what do you think to my idea for naked tramps get covered in grease, slide down badger sets and wrestle badgers.

So if the scripts good it could still be a winner.

If that's what you want to write, I will do my level best to make it the best naked tramp show possible.

Sometimes the job is to point out problems or convey notes from producers etc, not to provide solutions.

I never asked for those, but they were appreciated.
