A positive or negative attitude has nothing to do with how far you get, unless you allow it to influence what you write and how you pitch it. Which I don't.

You cant switch it off and on like that - positive things happen to positive people.

Law of Attraction, right? ;)

Law of Attraction is more "be nice and nice things happen" .... a bit Hindu/Buddist for me.

My point is that if you approach something positively then you will get more out of it. I set up my company 10 years ago to make lots of money - i didnt consider it would fail for one second, not even in my darkest hours. Likewise, i am writing to get a TV show, no question. In my mind i'm on Johnathon Ross already.

Correct way of thinking.

I will have a sitcom on television. I won't fail.

What, at ANY cost?

I have a sitcom on TV 3 times a week.

I put my cardboard box TV on my head, and act out all the parts, even the adverts.

I look in the mirror whilst I do this, and laugh hysterically.

Then later I cry, but I take the box off, because that's not very funny.

Well, depends on what 'at ANY cost' means?

Any examples?

Blood sacrifice? Loss of a favourite limb? Becoming Aaron's bitch?

I too am very committed to getting one of my sitcoms produced, but I wouldn't compromise so much that I would end-up regretting it. (Not saying you or anyone here would.)

I waited a full year in the late '90s whilst my script went from committee meeting to commitee meeting at the BEEB. All that was left to do was to get the Head of Department's signature, who liked it too. A week after I'd been told she liked it, she left. The new Head didn't want my script because as all new staff, they want their own ideas introduced. result my script got sent by the beeb TV to Beeb radio but nothing happened. Further result...depression lasting four years.

After initial excitements, I try not to get excited or expectant about anything anymore. Just try and enjoy writing, take the good and bad feedback, build some contacts and cross your fingers that one day...

As long as I was happy personally, and happy with what I was producing, then all would be well.

I HOPE I wouldn't compromise quality at any point, but I probably will because I'm a big arse-licker.

Yeah a not dissimilar thing happened to me - invite to the BBC, then the producer left. THANKS!

That's all I'm doing. Getting people to read then hopefully like my work - one prod at the moment has done some massive recent comedies and likes my work, so that's cool - then waiting for the break. The inevitable break, I believe, but you just don't know when it's going to happen.

Dont confuse self belife with desperation overrinding all other senses!

You can believe you'll succeed and still fail, that's life.....you just don't believe it will happen until it's obvious it has.

I've already re-written one previous script where I was asked to replace my unusual style for the sitcom with a more traditional form, so I guess I'm an old whore. (Even though it did actually work better.)

Allright? Ive just started writing my first sitcom,I've got the storyline for 6 episodes completed, character development completed, subplots completed and have just begun writing the script for Episode 1.I think it's going to be astoundingly brilliant! - but then again every time I buy a lottery ticket I think I'm gonna win and dont! It should be ready in about 3 weeks and then it's of to writers room! I have visions in my head of BBC producers emailing me to invite me in for a meeting to discuss making the project a reality!
I want to know do you all feel like this when you write something? (would anyone send off a script they thought was Barry White?)or am I just being a total and utter first time pipe-dreaming poopster?
Oh and where else should I send it! cheers, Webbo

Best of ruddy British sir. Sounds like it's only a matter of time before you get the big thumbs up.

Oo-er.
