However, I'm really happy with the rhythm and delivery of Art Class. Some people were mystified though, not really knowing enough about Magritte to grasp the point.

Yes I got that! Sounds like the show went really well though. It was never going to be perfect, but you are going to learn as much from what went wrong as what went right.

It went so well it was almost off-putting. Rolling eyes But, yes, we learnt a ton about what didn't go well...and also a lot about what did, unexpectedly. It's like on this recording, when people laughed at the word Manderley - that wasn't supposed to be a joke, but clearly people thought "Oh, yeah, that's the place in the Nelly song", and laughed through recognition, which I found surprising. No wonder Peter Kay's got a career, people really do love being reminded of stuff.

I also learnt that no amount of repetition and funny vocals is too much, if people are in a good mood. Laughing out loud

Here's the fourth and final YouTube selection. This is rather long, admittedly, but on the night most people numbered it amongst their favourties, so what do I know?

Cheers

You had my full attention for the first couple of minutes but then it became a bit hit and miss. Good performances.

Fair enough, thanks for sticking it out. :) Listening to this now, I think it would be beter served split into two to make it punchier, as there's a logical break at the point a phone is decided as the solution.

I think that on the night the length wasn't a problem becuase this one was quite visual: there were lots of cartoon facial expressions, and a bit of runnin around, and of course everyone ejoyed me shouting "bat" right into Dan's face at the top of my voice, not least because he didn't know I was going to do it, yuk yuk.

So, yeah, it probably loses a little of its impact outside of the room.

I enjoyed that, but as a listener I think a bit of brutal editing would have done it a lot of good. I can image it was more effective in performance; sketch groups often get away with really long sketches.

Just on the offchance your new year's resolution is to listen to lengthy recordings of live amateur comedy, here's the entire show (2 x 30 mins):

Naturally, I don't imagine (m)any of you will, but should the mood take you, I'd be intrigued to hear what you think, good or bad (God knows there are lots of things that make me cringe over the entire hour).

Happy new year!

NB Looks as though we've updloaded the fullrecording by mistake, with the intro music, which I imagine you don't want to hear. So, skip on to 1.30 - unless you wish to enjoy the myusic of The Evenings, of course.

Funny, intelligent sketches. Don't think of limiting yourself because some people may not understand all the references!

Cheers, Beaky - although, I'm not sure it's that high-brow, it mostly boils down to puns and silly voices in the end!

As promised, we've put up an edited version. Same content as before, but a couple of extraneous moments removed, and one glitchy bell put in its place. So, now you'll just waste 66.56 of your life, not 68.24.
