Topical joke, needs editing! Page 2

Reminds me of John Thomson as compère Bernard Righton. Tricky to make it funny.

Was that the Bernerd Manning spoof? I remember liking that "You know how tight my mother law is? She's not, she bought us a house"

That's the one :)

It's an anti joke, or as it's better known an unfunny clever bollocks joke.

Basically setting up an incredibly obvious gag, that making a smug statement instead.

An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walked into a bar.

It was a colour bar, as the Irishman was black. So they protested against racism. Remember Madiba.

That's what I meant, but I was more diplomatic... thinking about it, I'm not sure if Thomson was taking the piss out of comedians like Manning, or as his name suggests, 'right on' reactionaries; which isn't good for the funny.

TBH Funny, I never know whether you are just taking the piss or are seriously trying to make a go of writing, hard to tell really from your manner of posting.

Hi Shandonbelle,
Interesting comment, I absolutely love comedy, and the style I like the most would be the quick witted one liners and good short story's with a strong punch line.

I am in no way taking the piss, but you guys do sometimes make me wonder if I should ever tell a joke again! sometimes I have an idea and I know there's a joke there, but I also know there's a better way of conveying it and I look to you guys for inspiration. I'll be honest I don't always listen to it, and I think some of you think I'm a waist of time and shouldn't ever post again, but you've all read my stuff by now and so I assume only those that have some interest will bother reading it.

I'm not trying to be the very best comedy writer ever, how could I, but I like telling jokes, I like being funny and want to know I'm doing the best I can.
to use an analogy: some people are natural artist, from a young age they can draw without anyone telling them how, its natural to them, others love drawing but need teaching, they go to drawing classes and learn techniques from other drawers, these people know they are never going to be the next Monet, they do it because they love it and they try to improve by learning from others, I guess that's what I'm trying to do.

As a friend of mine pointed out "Sports Personality" is an oxymoron.

The old ones are always good.

What would personality sport of the year be?

Would that be like Graham Norton winning an egg and spoon race?
