Lovely Script Edit & Development Service

Hey there.

So a lot of you know me on here, and know that I have an agent at Independent Talent (One of the biggest agencies around) and over the past few years I've managed to gain quite a bit of experience developing scripts at lots of production compaies and also at the BBC. I've critiqued and script edited scripts for friends in the past, and have now launched a paid service to help others develop their work using the knowledge and experience I've gathered.

If you, or anyone you might know, might be interested in this (shockingly low-priced) service, then help a guy out. Thanks.

Here's the scoop:

THE PITCH:

Want help developing your latest script? Think you're about ready to show it off but want a professional eye to give it a once over before you throw it at those heartless monsters who dwell within fancy production companies and who run those writing competitions you never win? Then pass it my way and I'll do my best to help you get your work into fighting shape.

WHY PAY ME??

Good question, have a sandwich.

Over the last few years I have amassed a lot of experience developing scripts for TV, radio and the internet, working with a wide range of well-known production companies in the process; including Hat Trick, Baby Cow, Pozzitive, Brown Eyed Boy, Big Talk and in-house producers at the BBC. I've been through the process of developing a script from promising start, to ready to pitch to channels, several times.

This year, I've had a Radio 4 show developed and pitched by an in-house BBC producer, I currently have two TV shows being developed at different production companies, and will be part of the writing team for a new cartoon the Nickelodeon channel is developing (um, well, I will be if they decide to pick it up for more episodes...) I was also chosen by Mr Graham Linehan ('Smith & Jones') to be part of the writing team for the fifth series of his hit sitcom 'The IT Crowd', and he certainly knows a thing or two about comedy (um, yeah, that series didn't go ahead in the end, but it counts!).

I have a lot of experience and I'd like to put that to good use by helping you get your work into a good enough state to show off. Don't ruin your chances of catching someone's eye by sending off work that's not quite ready.

WHAT WILL YOU DO FOR ME, BUB?

I currently offer two levels of service (prices below), one for half hour scripts (and shorter), one for longer scripts. For each I will provide an in-depth script report which will examine things like the shows premise, characters, opening-ten, dialogue, structure, etc and give an overall verdict on the piece, plus plenty of advice and encouragement regarding what you should do next. My aim is not to just try and point out 'flaws', but to provide you with the ideas and inspiration for where to go next, and the encouraged impetus to do so.

So go on, toss your script (and cash) my way, it might be just what your script needs to get noticed.

<strong>SERVICES:</strong>

Half-Hour (or shorter) Scripts: £70

Longer Scripts: £90

Wow those are some seriously modest prices.

Extremely reasonable (mad) prices. Best of luck with the venture Matthew!

nb Matt if that's what you're charging have you considered touting your wares on an hourly with People Per Hour?

It's a neat way of picking up passing traffic.

Thanks; got to undercut the big boys!

I've not heard of People Per Hour; thanks, I'll check it out.

I just sold one, writing a funny speech!

But yeh wondering people in BCG, Matt knows his stuff and understands the funny.

So get him to reread your script.

Good luck with this.
Would you say your strength is in shorter format TV comedy?
It's just sometimes a second, educated set of eyes on a screenplay is really handy - and your prices are reasonable.

Well, I'm going to shamelessly jump on the bandwagon and promote my script editing in the same thread.

I'm not as experienced and nor is it 'lovely'. In fact, it can be pretty harsh.

No worries, Dan. :)

That just took me to a blank page

or is that an example of a very harshly edited script?

Less is more :)

I wouldn't price yourself too low Matthew, it can have the opposite effect of what you're trying to do.

Good luck though...

Ta. Yes, wasn't quite sure what to do price-wise, but thought it can't hurt to try it low then hoik it up a bit at a later date. But yeah, there is the slight worry that people might think it's a rubbish service 'cos it's too low and so avoid...

Sounds very interesting. Nothing ready to show you at present but might well have something shortly.

When I did some freelance stuff (not editing, mind) I was advised to provide a low-cost introductory offer. That way, having high rates without a reputation won't put people off, but people won't assume you're crap because you're cheap.

Good luck with this by the way! And didn't realise you were with Independent Talent - nice one!
