'Hello! Real world calling . . . '

Would love to have a job like that. Can I have his?

Nelson Mandela has died

Yeah, just saw that.

From The Guardian:

"Jordan elected to UN security council seat that Saudi Arabia rejected"

Well, I just hope she'll be more sensible than half of them there.

Nelson Mandela has died

Do you think one of us should ring the BBC and tell them?

Nah, it's not really a big story

I think this is really sweet-

MPs to receive an 11% pay rise after 2015 bringing their pay to £74000 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25287108

Once upon a time Members of Parliament were salaried to enable people who weren't among the landed gentry to participate in the political process. Funny how things work out.

If it's moving towards MPs who can run their offices and live their lives.
With out needing preexisting funds, dodgy jobs from funders or wonky expenses then I think its a good thing.

MPs should be able to do their jobs on their pay and expenses for their job and held to account if they don't.

It is, I'm just puzzled its a news story, surely this kind of stuff is common place.

That's a nice dream, but I don't believe for one second that we are heading that way.

We're moving in that direction.

Right now it's impossible for an MP to run their office and their lives in the current pay structure. I think pay raise is long over due, they've had their wages frozen longer than any other politician.

And more and more they're treated as a sort of adjunct of the CAB and social services by dim wits. Writing about parking tickets or how to fill in welfare benefit forms.

Sadly I don't think it is but hopefully becomes so.

Listening to five live this morning

The presenter spent all morning asking various mp's of all parties will they give the money away to charity

Listening to them wriggle and squirm trying to avoid the question completely was hilarious

One lady Labour MP made a total prat of herself

Pathetic

I think people have forgotten who or what MPs are.

And that's another blow for democracy in this country.

Well, if the cuts are closing down CAB offices...?

But didn't the expenses scandal show that, beyond the people cheating the system, expenses are lawfully being used to pay for every aspect of an MP's life? Everything from cat food to redecorating the living room. All the stuff that somebody's salary would pay for in all other professions, and it hadn't occurred to most of them?
