British Comedy Guide

Any writers of comic fiction

Hi there,

Earlier this year I established Teckle Books, an independent publishing company specialising in comic fiction.

Our first book, 'The Tartan Special One' by Barry Phillips, was released last month to great fanfare among those familiar with the cult 'Real Leigh Griffiths Blog' that Barry wrote a few years ago. The first run sold out almost immediately and the book's been getting good publicity across the UK with Christopher Brookmyre describing it as funniest book he had read in years.

I'm looking to hear from other aspiring writers of prose comedy looking to have their work published.

No guarantees, obviously, but to submit a manuscript or just find out what we're all about please email grant@tecklebooks.co.uk or check out our website www.tecklebooks.co.uk.

Cheers,
Grant.

Looks interesting Grant - be prepared for an avalanche of crap about to arrive in your in tray though!

I will add my effort at a comic novel to your reading burden if I can ever get it past page 15!

Good luck!

Why crap from here? And if you can't write why put others down?

Ouch! Have I done something to upset you Marc?

I never mentioned crap from here.

'Looks interesting' was referring to Tecklebooks website where they are openly asking for people to submit - I was just suggesting he might well be in for an avalanche of books that people have failed to get anyone else to look at, most of which might well not be works of literary genius.

I wish Teckle well in this venture and commend them for it. I genuinely hope they uncover a new writer or writers of merit. If I had a finished work I would absolutely be sending it in with please read me on the front in big friendly writing.

As I never denigrate any writers on this site and try to be positive with all my contributions I am a little surprised with the tone of your post.

There was no tone Playful just succinctness. Apologies if I misread, just been a lot of negativity flying around on critique of late and it is rather poisoning the well. Good luck with the book and sorry for the misinterpretation again.

No problem, I would start using emoticons to make my meanings clear instead of my usual 'comedy exclamation marks', but I am afraid Sooty might tear me a new Zebra hole...

Hi Grant,

Did you get many submissions? Are you still looking for new work?

Regards

playfull

Hi mate,

Got plenty of submissions to wade through. Still interested in reading new stuff but it'd likely be 2015 now before I was able to do anything with it.

Are you interested in comedic short stories or just novel-length ones.

I just went on amazon to check out 'The Tartan Special One' but it's too expensive for my blood - £7.20 for the kindle version. If you lowered the price I'm sure you would sell more

Otterfox - we're planning to launch an anthology for new writers in the New Year so short story submissions are welcome. Email frank@tecklebooks.co.uk.

Mikey - we're practically Luddites so only just getting to grips with the digital world. The price was set on advice from other publishers on the basis of recouping the scandalous cut Amazon keep but it is something we'll look at in future.
