I can see why units are banning blurred lines

I see someone in the government wants the age of consent lowering to 15

I find that strange

Considering some of the people in that party - I'd thought they'd want it lowering to about 12

Lofty, you're increasingly painting yourself to be the type of person who pickets the houses of paediatricians.

I don't think the age of consent should be lowered - I think there's already a lot of pressure on kids to have sex before they personally feel ready (pressure from friends, porn, advertisements, TV) and I think the age of consent already feels to many like a deadline. Better sex education is what is needed, so that kids are not learning the wrong things from the wrong sources.

There've been 2 or 3 things I've read about cases where the sex ed thing in schools has been ramped up, with pictures and condoms and all that thrown in and guess what? The teen pregnancy rates soared! Laughing out loud Proves what I've always thought about giving liberals power, clueless and dangerous.

No I don't think they'd get the age down in law, too many legal constraints for one thing. They're trying to put the school leaving age up to 18 which is total nuts on its own, but with the other thing changed too it means you could have many girls/young women trying to revise for exams at 18 with 3 year olds screeching for their attention. That's going to work well.

Not according to this study: http://www.siecus.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=feature.showfeature&featureid=1041&pageid=682&parentid=478

"Key Findings:

-Young people who received comprehensive sex education were significantly less likely to report a teen pregnancy compared to those who received no sex education.

-Abstinence-only programs were not significantly associated with a risk reduction for teen pregnancy when compared with no sex education.

-In comparing abstinence-only programs with comprehensive sex education, comprehensive sex education was associated with a 50% lower risk of teen pregnancy.

-After adjusting for demographics, abstinence-only programs were not significantly associated with a delay in the initiation of vaginal intercourse.

-Comprehensive sex education was marginally associated with reduced reports of vaginal intercourse.

-Neither abstinence-only programs nor comprehensive sex education were significantly associated with risk for an STD when compared to no sex education."

Lofty who are you actually referring too.

If its Cyril Smith, he's a lib dem and dead.

As for the age of consent I wouldn't suggest lowering it, I would suggest clearer guidelines on not accidentally turning 14 and 15 year old in relationships with each other into life long sex offenders.

Good point,

sex education is a war between good sensible, realstic education and a tsunami of easily accessible porn and sexual pressure from social media.

The idea that it's going to look like anything we grew up with.

I think it's about time it started to cover relationships, pressure and not just mechanics.

Ah good old Alfred.

Your views so bizarre, I look on them like some charming piece of performance art.

Definitely. Especially as young men are starting to suffer from porn-related sexual dysfunction and young women are made to feel like sexual violence and humiliation are normal aspects of the average person's sex life.

I would merge sex education and education about what it is really like to work - or be unemployed - for more than 50 years. Make the latter realistic enough and they will delay adulthood for as long as possible.

No I'm talking about in England, one was at schools in Northants, not sure where the others were, but they had it on R4 womans hour and I read the others. Pregnancy rates soared after these new explicit sex ed progs at schools, it said. They even had to legally over ride some parents objections to doing it. Then some of their kids got preggers! Because as one very angry mum said on WH 'My child had no interest in sex until the schools new sex ed prog started.' Much stuttering waffle from the sex ed person in reply.

How stupid do you think I am!?

My original comment was only in jest, I wasn't being totally serious

There are many Tories , alive and dead who I could mention - like L*** *****n and H**** *ro*****

There's also many labour and lib dems I could name

I do find it ludicrous though that someone connected with the government wants it to be legal for a 15 year old child to finish school at 3pm, nip to the shop for a Mr Freeze and then go home and have full intercourse with another 15 year old child if he wants to

Yes, we know they will do it anyway and do do it

But don't say it's OK

Cos it's not!

They're children ffs!!!

I would change it to 18 if anything

http://www.nice.org.uk/niceMedia/documents/teenpreg_evidence_briefing_summary.pdf

ok in the last set of NHS stats there were 7,617 under age pregnancies in the UK.

That's not a lot now is it.

Sexual pressure I think does more harm in terms of low self esteem and mental health terms.

Lofty you seem to have something quite seriously bothering you.

But like drug usage, alcohol and all sorts of other foolish if not actively damaging behaviour it's the criminalisation that causes all the problems.

I don't know how many kids you know, but many of them are pretty smart and know where they're going.

True, and many of them are doing it like rabbits when their mum and dad aren't in.

Any links? The only story I can find on sex education in North Hants is parents campaigning against the use of a sex education video in primary schools.
