Then that is the challenge to the writer!

I just don't like emoticons they stand for everything wrong in out atomised society, merely trying with firm language trying to steer you back onto the golden path.

They are a necessary evil, like underwear.

Not really - subtle sarcasm could easily go over someone's head, especially as this is an open forum.

What to be removed during confessions whilst in the presence of a priest?

Actually that was a bad example, underwear can be nice, I just think mine are the wrong way round.

Do we have a 'necessary evil' thread?

I'm not so sure, most of us here are, or are wanna be writers.

The challenge to the writer is with minimal directions, to paint pictures in the readers minds.

I mean try this speech from Hamlet

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
(Eh?)
Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer
('Teary')
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,
('Laughing out loud')
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
('Angry')
And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep
('Pleased')

now are you seriously telling me that was improved by the addition of emoticons?

Actually that was a bad example, underwear can be nice, but lets save that for a new GR thread.

Do we have a 'necessary evil' thread?

Would it be a neccesary evil?

you too, only you can prevent emoticon use

>_<
I thought this was an arsehole emoticon isn't it??

Nope its Nick Griffin impersonating a China man

Keep up, Horseradish, we're at the name-calling section of the discussion :)

Sorry.

The St John's Wort was spreading so I went out to hack at it.

Take arms against a sea of troubles isn't that mixing his metaphors and come to that... Isn't it a tad on the nose? Show don't tell!!

Let's use this thread properly again:

German actress Marie Bäumer. I'd marry her.

Quote: Nogget @ 14th November 2013, 12:28 PM GMT

This issue was touched on in Womans Hour a couple of days ago, where the example of how it seems to be acceptable on primetime BBC that the gay male judges openly perve over certain contestants on Strictly, and it was lamented that it's still not ok to see lesbians perving over women.

Clearly Ellen's doing her best to change this. If anyone's seen her chat show they'll know she really is obsessed with trying to pioneer womens' rights to be as sexually open or as freely expressive as men, and all that. Still utterly convinced it wasn't all tongue in cheek and talking of tongues in cheeks I wouldn't be in any way surprised if they had a steamy lesbo threesome later at her posh pad. Now if someone could post that pic please...Er, has it got very hot in here all of a sudden...loosens tie, fan, fan... :S

Thanks, appreciated

Ah but am I being sincere, or over ingratiating.

Without the emoticon I have the upper hand.

I am the unreliable narrator, fear me mere mortal writers.
