I reckon it's a bit of both. She's using her modern day freedom of expression as a lezo to express what she really feels, ofcourse she'd love to get her hands on them, and also she has the luxury of being able to hide behind irony and the humour/piss taking thing because she's a famous comedienne. In other words she's using the same sex thing and humourous tongue in cheek thing and exploiting the complexity of sexual politics and the fact women really own it to have a good old ogle and get away with it. :S And why not? But she isn't fooling me.

That.

Well that takes the hegemony out of the argument I guess.

This is a complicated video. Genius line... 'forget your balls and grow a pair of tits.' For me there is no titillation in it at all.. and she does make the sarcasm comment. I see what she is doing with it and I think pulls if off but am not sure. Certainly in the lines of Ellen's take maybe... but like I say it's a complicated one. HEre it is anyway...

Well, if we're doing feminist pop songs...

Queen Latifah said it quite powerfully back in the early 90s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8cHxydDb7o

And Pink's 'Stupid Girls' was very good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR4yQFZK9YM

Anyway...shall we get this thread back on track?

Yeah Pink is pretty good and is doing the same thing there no not quite as full on.. which is probably good.

LOL. Was that Rear of the Year winner a deliberate reference to the twerking. And she does have lovely eyes :)

She's still perving though isn't she, or have I missed something about the kind of women she likes?

This issue was touched on in Womans Hour a couple of days ago, where the example of how it seems to be acceptable on primetime BBC that the gay male judges openly perve over certain contestants on Strictly, and it was lamented that it's still not ok to see lesbians perving over women.

This all started with a photo of a couple of skinny male actors in a jovial clinch and then suddenly it's lesbian spank inferno.

Keep up the good work BCG! ;)

It's the same reason why white people shouldn't use the N-word and why I can call myself a 'dyke' but you shouldn't call me one.

I call myself a dyke, but then I spend my weekends working for the national trust standing in small brooks or streams diverting the flow of water.

The wetlands trust want to call me a beaver, but they can piss off.

:D

nb with regards to Katy Perry she's very pretty and a perfectly decent singer, I'm listening to a couple of her ear worms quite a bit.

But her image like that of Russell Brand is very structured and created. So carefully applied make up, well behaved photographers and sculpting, molding outfits.

It's a kind of slightly creepy look that's been around for decades. Little girls want to dress like her whilst their dads want to masturbate to her.

It does make you think sometimes those who favour burqas and niqarbs as a way of shortcutting the whole debate, may have a little bit of a point.

Do you remember when Nigella Lawson wore a hijabi swimsuit at the beach and everyone freaked the f**k out because she decided to cover up?

Yup ridiculous, hasnt she just given in and gone down the

"how does she look so good route?"

Quote: Harridan @ 14th November 2013, 9:53 AM GMT

other people's tits tend not to make you go Arooooga! when you have a pair of your own.

We must know very different lesbians.

Quote: Harridan @ 14th November 2013, 10:31 AM GMT

There is also a difference between the power relationship and social context of a man doing that to a woman he is friends with and a lesbian doing that to a woman she is friends with.

Isn't this quite a sexist view of society and relationships? Not all heterosexual couples are defined by a strong, powerful man, and a lesser woman. Genuine question.

Quote: zooo @ 14th November 2013, 10:53 AM GMT

Well exactly. Women very rarely are sexually violent, historically. If it was women that had done all the rapin's you'd ever heard of (instead of men) then a woman ogling you and being sexual towards you (a male or female you) wouldn't just be a harmless joke, but would have potential to be something else. And therefore might make you uncomfortable or slightly intimidated.

So in other words, all women are misandrists? Good to know!

Quote: Marc P @ 14th November 2013, 10:46 AM GMT

Most of the objectification of women comes from the media and most people in the media are women. Which I know is a different subject.

It's a losing argument, Marc. They don't want to see it, so they won't. :)

Don't be so crass, you cretin.

That post represents everything that is wrong with debate and politics in this country. As soon as someone says something one disagrees with, rather than sensibly and seriously debate and make the alternative point, there's an attempt to shut the whole debate down and nullify the opposing point of view. It's pathetic.

If I meant that, I would have said it.

Huh?

Apologies for attempt at humour, will not happen again. *walks out backwards, bowing* Unimpressed

Oh don't be so silly, I wasn't even trying to indulge in this debate, I put a silly little comment on a 'Who Do You Fancy' thread, messing around. HENCE THE EMOTICONS AFTERWARDS TO MAKE THIS CLEAR AS VERY UNCLEAR MUD.
