Yey that De Menenzes fiasco was terrible. Poor Guy.

I think all in all on terrorism MI5 are doing well. I mean it could be a hell of a lot worse, than the incidents that have happened so far.

And lets not forget, the biggest weapon against the sods, is people in their own community grassing them up. Which thankfully is more often then not the case.

It's clowns though that worry me, they're a hidden threat.

Part of all the arguments about what is, what isn't acceptable stem unfortunately from the scourge all most things, governments.

None of us have the "wisdom of Solomon". All we can hope for is a liberal democracy where the laws and regulations our politicians enforce reflect a common sense approach that fits in with the mind-set of the people.

Unfortunately, self-interested parties deviate law away from the views of ordinary people until "common sense" in dealings of citizens is eroded.

Part of the trouble regarding the paedophilia issue, is that sexuality probably the most personal and complex thing in our psyche. It's very difficult to have an open and honest discussion as a society about sexuality and what is acceptable and what is deviant and how best to handle it. We won't tackle the issue until people address the issue of "Well, what are worst things I've ever thought sexually? Why didn't I act on them? Why do some people?". Protect the vulnerable, but do it with a progressive debate.

(Not that it should matter, but I am the father of 9 year old twin girls, so I obviously would wish them no harm.)

Absolutely. I work in adult mental health/ASD/LD services, and it's interesting when people get into relationships the thorny concepts of consent that pop up. There is no clear demarcation line, and I think we would do better to expand, and strengthen laws on rape, and assault. After all what do you do when a 14 year has a relationship with a 40 year old with a mental age of 10?

These things do happen.

I agree Tim.
If there was a key that can be turned in the mind, that switches not the thoughts (No harm with a thought) but a potential action, then Yay! FanTabUlous. Lets do it now.
Sadly so far to date there isn't any. In the meantime these kiddies need protecting.

Personally I'd like to see the CEO of McDonald's done for child abuse.

And after working 10 years as a hospital doctor, in all sorts of ways, nothing to do with issues of sexuality and abuse now seems to shock me. Depressingly.

My own personal opinion is that you should never be punished for thought crimes. Its only when you act upon them that society has the right to step in.

On the subject of age in the bible - noah was 750 years old, and he built a sea-faring vessel with a displacement of 22,000 tons. Most old people today can't even bend over without shitting themselves.

A lot of excuses are coming up on here for Mr Langham. Eg "Oh he was just a curious cat". Bollocks! He was more than curious. I am not calling the guy a child abuser. As far as I am aware, he most certainly is not. There is only one reason & one alone, that any body looks at any form of porn. Because it pleases them. It gets them off.
I am curious as to how a woman can f**k a horse, but I dont need the images to fullfill it. No fankoo!

Yeh I'm always amazed by the dignity of people who live through these things, and get on with their lives.

Laughing out loud

By the by, don't for a second think that we live in an overly liberal country. 'Political correctness' is not liberalism. It's a lack of understanding. Our country seems to get more divided all the time. People love to moan about PC Britain. These views are reinforced by papers like The Daily Mail, which pretty much fabricate stories about "immigrants take our jobs", "Muslims ban Christmas" etc. because people lap it up like mindless fools.

Wiki thoughtcrime and you'll see Britain gets an honourable mention for having a huge network of CCTV cameras.

IMO people in Britain are increasingly suspicious and right-wing.

Don't get me started on the fairytale that is the Bible. I will be here all night.
