I tried to put a couple of quid on Chris Coleman. Coral didn't have him on their list, and tried to phone their manager, but the line was out of order. Seriously! So I couldn't place a bet there. I went over the road to Ladbrokes who were offering a measly 11/1, so I gave up.

I'd like Andros Townsend as player-manager please. Or Harry Redknapp. Got any Arsenal in your FF team this week? It's fill yer boots time.

Still kept your sense of humour then!

The Arsenal thing is a sore point. It's still No Gunners for me, but my God, this is the wrong season to try and play FF with that handicap.

Damn! Coral at 33/1.

Can't be bothered with online betting, but thanks, OR.

Rafa Benitez 250/1 @ BetVictor. Laughing out loud

We occasionally had a couple of words with Steve Kember when about 7 or 8 as he was in our road a lot. Someone said he lived there.

My Nan attended Kenny Sansom's wedding in SE17. She was just passing and they invited her in. Have always liked him and am so pleased he is in recovery.

So Kember's my choice with Sansom as deputy to assist his improvement.

Or Ian Wright.

Don't go near SGE for all the obvious reasons.

1-0 was probably just about the right score for United last night. I suspect the win was due to Fellaini not bumbling about in the centre of the pitch.

*Palace rant alert*

I'm so glad Holloway has gone. Nice guy, heart of gold, but a poor talent-spotter. We've ended up with a squad of ordinary journeymen, barring Speroni, Bolassie, Gayle and Puncheon. A huge clear-out is needed.

The shortsighted Board, too, don't hold my faith. We could have (SHOULD have) kept Zaha for at least one more season. We could also have got Arshavin* as a targetman goalhanger (free), Watson (c.£2M), Sinclair (loan), Moses (loan) and Wisdom (loan). McManaman (c.£6M) could also have been tempted. So who did we go for? Dobbie/Campana etc. etc. Huge waste of money, some of which could have been spent on the aforementioned players. Now we start again, basically from scratch.

Kember is a Palace hero, but was an ordinary manager. Sansom is untested and his reliability is under question. Freedman has 'history' with the Board. I'd like Zola to be offered the position.

Whoever we get, please let it not be Pulis, Di Canio or Warnock. I'm fed up with cloggers.

*To those who may say that Arshavin would never have come to Palace, I say that we could have offered him a one-year contract at a basic salary and an end-of-season payment of, say, £4-5M, when the guaranteed minimum TV payment of £29.9M arrives next June.

Anyway..

A nice post. I'm for the Gunners but Palace are local so I like to help where I can. Probably I wouldn't make a final choice based on distant personal half connections. Or maybe I would as there are no guarantees in life and expertise has always been the most mythical of concepts.

In terms of sound players, Gabbidon and Moxey have done surprisingly well and you must surely want to include Ward? I've never spoken to him and no one I know has ever met him. But he seems impressive - at least on the admittedly narrow criteria of ability and performance.

Quote: Stylee TingTing @ October 24 2013, 1:41 PM BST

Yes, agreed.

I read your words and then I look at the league table: 2nd from bottom with 17 goals conceded from 8 games.. and you're bigging-up three of the Palace back four? I just don't see it, myself.

Think Moxey had a couple of Premiership class matches early on. Admirable as the effort took him beyond people's views of his natural capabilities. The praise was well deserved. Then Gabbidon who isn't young did pretty well for a couple and even got recalled for Wales although they were struggling to find players. I like players who make an effort. Ward is probably the only one of the three mentioned earlier with long term potential but there's Parr and others. Sunderland under di Canio it wasn't but not enough to save Holloway.

Looking ahead, you have a lot of players so rotation in all positions seems sensible. Mind you, Blake has problems, Marange and others are injured, and Murray your main striker is absent for the long term. That's the major difference as he did so well last year - so it probably won't be very easy for the new manager. I doubt Sunderland will recover fully but it is difficult to find two teams from the rest who you can battle against to avoid the bottom three. One thing I do know is that Stoke will need to rediscover last year's defence not to struggle as they can't score. Cardiff could also be flimsier than the Man C result suggested.

I hope Zaha stays at Man Utd. I really thing we need someone with his mazy runs and youthful confidence. If he doesn't get many more games, though, I think he's going to have to demand a loan move.

Well you never know. They are getting desperate.

He'd have been better off with another season at Palace

The onfield spat he had with Morrison in the last U/21 game was worrying for its possible off-field repercussions within the area of the previous 'history'.

Care to enlighten me?

Quote: Chappers @ October 22 2013, 11:00 PM BST

From ferguson's "My Autobiograhy" (Who else;s would it be you twat?)

"The minute a Manchester United player thought he was bigger than the manager, he had to go," he wrote. "David thought he was bigger than Alex Ferguson.
"That was the death knell for him."

2 things there. Referring to himself in the third person - and death knell? Talk about exaggeration!

Was it a good read Chappers? Couldn't wait till Christmas then? Snigger. He has no care in the world about his reputation in football or he wouldn't have laid into fellow pros like Gerrard in particular. Fergie's lack of grace has always staggered me, considering the very high status in the game he holds.

What the hell is the point of questioning Gerrard's talent? He's been world class on many occasions, probably more than Lampard and his beloved Scholes. All different types of midfielder, I think Gerrard had better all round skills than both the others and paid the price for it by being asked to play too deep too often and do way too much. Had he been kept in a forward playing Gaza type role, by far his best position, then he would've scored or least created more goals than Lamps and Scholes. Lampard had distribution flaws and Scholes atrocious tackling and disciplin, while Gerrard's flaws are minor and usually come from playing too deep. But easily the most accomplished player of all three. Does Fergie dislike scousers or what?

Just heard that a mascot has been sent off in the Blackpool v Blackburn game for offering a linesman a pair of glasses !

Newcastle have always been the easiest Premiership club in the North to wish well. These days the Toon Army deserve additional support what with the Wonga wrongness. Interesting to see then how filthy lucre is up against divine intervention at the Stadium of Light tomorrow:

The Pope has nicked the idea of course. The Minstermen only got back into the league when John Sentamu had a private word with you know who. Taking all things into account, I am betting on a 1-1 draw barring extreme weather conditions. None have been forecast, have they?
