*Palace rant alert*
I'm so glad Holloway has gone. Nice guy, heart of gold, but a poor talent-spotter. We've ended up with a squad of ordinary journeymen, barring Speroni, Bolassie, Gayle and Puncheon. A huge clear-out is needed.
The shortsighted Board, too, don't hold my faith. We could have (SHOULD have) kept Zaha for at least one more season. We could also have got Arshavin* as a targetman goalhanger (free), Watson (c.£2M), Sinclair (loan), Moses (loan) and Wisdom (loan). McManaman (c.£6M) could also have been tempted. So who did we go for? Dobbie/Campana etc. etc. Huge waste of money, some of which could have been spent on the aforementioned players. Now we start again, basically from scratch.
Kember is a Palace hero, but was an ordinary manager. Sansom is untested and his reliability is under question. Freedman has 'history' with the Board. I'd like Zola to be offered the position.
Whoever we get, please let it not be Pulis, Di Canio or Warnock. I'm fed up with cloggers.
*To those who may say that Arshavin would never have come to Palace, I say that we could have offered him a one-year contract at a basic salary and an end-of-season payment of, say, £4-5M, when the guaranteed minimum TV payment of £29.9M arrives next June.
Anyway..
A nice post. I'm for the Gunners but Palace are local so I like to help where I can. Probably I wouldn't make a final choice based on distant personal half connections. Or maybe I would as there are no guarantees in life and expertise has always been the most mythical of concepts.
In terms of sound players, Gabbidon and Moxey have done surprisingly well and you must surely want to include Ward? I've never spoken to him and no one I know has ever met him. But he seems impressive - at least on the admittedly narrow criteria of ability and performance.
