Well if the paperworks done the day before, why not pay a poet or something to do it for less.

Poets are cheap.

I really wouldn't trust someone who hasn't officiated before, I don't think. It's too important to risk. Plus I don't know any poets who I trust quite enough!

I've just spoken to a guy who I think would be absolutely perfect but it's definitely not going to work out as a cheap option :( Being made redundant is making this wedding thing very very difficult.

As I don't really believe in marriage can I have my own 'Don't believe in marriage cos I tried it and it didn't work so not planning on doing it ever again even if I meet the right person (which is unlikely) cos it's only a piece of paper after all though some people consider this to be important'...thread?

Sure, as long as you don't come on here and ruin my fun. Oh.. wait :(

This has actually given me a great idea. If Dan's up for it, which I'm honestly not sure, I'm thinking I might invite one of our guests to perform the ceremony. The more I say it the more I like the idea.

Please stay off the happy we're getting married thread if you're going to poo poo it. FANK NOO!

Does it have to be happy? How about all those Indian arranged marriages that often end in divorce? They're not happy. No,no they're not. See, this isn't the 'Must be happy marriage' thread is it. No..no it's not. :)

(I do look gorgeous in white though :$ )

Agreed - not all marriage is happy... but I like to think both Nat's and mine will be.

NB. We are not marrying each other... as awesome as that would be.

How about we agree that as L.E started the thread with the intention of talking about her upcoming wedding, that the tacit understanding is that it's a thread of planning and happiness and that any 'weddings are bullshit' speech will fall somewhere in the range of unwarranted to nasty? Given that understanding, you can decide whether or how far into that range you would like to fall.

Removing this sort of thing from Status Report and general general is a courtesy for those who don't want to read about it.

El, I would marrie you SO HARD.

Yeeeeeeah you would. <3

Yeah so I'm really falling for the idea of having one of my guests perform the ceremony. We're going to do all of the legal stuff anyway the day before at a registry office, and whilst getting someone with lots of experience is great, I don't know if it's £400 great. Plus I've got some amazing friends who I know would absolutely knock this out of the park.

And you're both writers so you could write all da words

Currently writing a grooms speech, never thought my job would be discouraging filth

Absolutely. We'd write the whole thing and pick someone we trust to speak it for us. I'm getting dead into it now :D

Second wedding nightmare on the same day. I'm very upset now. Apparently our band don't have public liability insurance or PAT tested equipment, which is an absolute 100% must for live performers. They've told the venue that they're going to charge US if we want those things, which I'm pretty sure are a legal requirement. They're already costing £500 out of the budget which is a massive stretch. I'm very sad.

That is super rubbish hun! :(
