WGC on tour now, and BSP supporting Editors next month.

Talking of which, Radish, I see the Pogues are playing in December.

Tickets not cheap though, £35 face value + booking fee.

Very close to birthdays - mine more than Shane's - but I dunno. That second album is one of their best and Brixton's a good venue. Still, memories at a third of the price might be better. On posts, I'm saving them up - and Kirsty - for the right time.

I'm not a big BSP fan but they have their moments. The guitar etc solo at the end of "Oh Larsen B" is a joy as is all of the TV film "From the Sea to the Land Beyond". What they and RSATL have in common is a nautical theme. This naturally follows:

The X Seamen's Institute - Shenandoah

nb. Have just found Larsen on YT - excellent in my opinion -

Yes, he's definitely back. A good album recently. Last year?

Why isn't Charlotte Hatherley lauded?

Elastica, Echobelly, Sleeper - they were all pretty good - but this really is classic "indie" songwriting:

Wounded Sky - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8LMeOZg5cM

Odetta - Hit or Miss

Andre Tanker - Sayamanda

Odetta - Hit or Miss

Chet Faker - Love & Feeling (Live Sessions)

Enjoyed these - and their connection.

Odetta - "The first thing that turned me on to folk singing was Odetta. I heard a record of hers, 'Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues', in a record store, back when you could listen to records right there in the store. The record was just something vital and personal. I learned all the songs on that record." (Bob Dylan)

Andre Tanker - "Original......his influence on the music of Trinidad and Tobago was compared by David Rudder to that of Bob Dylan on American music. Tanker's work defines the Caribbean folk-jazz genre".

Chet Faker - "Chet Faker is an Australian electronica musician. In 2012 he issued an EP, 'Thinking in Textures', and won 'Breakthrough Artist of the Year'. The influences he has cited include Bob Dylan."

Thanks. Liked those. Every era and genre has merit but musically this version of the 70s had the greatest sense of permanence. Given the cultural changes at that time, that's more than a little ironic. For all of the experimentation, 20-somethings had never sounded so mature and they were never to sound so mature again. Some of us were younger then so that played a part but mostly it is a comment about substance.
