Yes I know what you mean, but I suppose you have to distance the personality Wogan created for himself from the actual person. it is like any form of art or entertainment, you cannot dismiss it because of your opinion of the creator, at least not without narrowing your horizon really rather dramatically.
Curiously while I dislike Evans as a personality, as a person I think he has done rather well to go from egotistical arsehole to grounded individual, or at least as grounded as it is possible to be while being as comfortably well off as Croesus
Yes, you are right. I managed to cut myself off from the Premiership for several years on much the same grounds but it can be self-defeating. I am trying to develop what I think psychologists call a lacuna on gross levels of pay while simultaneously making sure that I don't actually forget.
On Chris Evans, I don't take to him much as a person but I do regard him as quite good at what he does. He must be if I can say so while not liking him particularly. It helped when he refused requests by leading politicians to be seen with them just so as they could widen their appeal.
It's also the case that while I'm for improving broadcasting standards, that doesn't come with any sense of elitism. Throwaway stuff is tremendous if it is done well. The biggest enemy is blandness. I thought "The Big Breakfast" during the Evans years was a great bit of TV - original, a bit anarchic, vibrant. I liked it a lot.
