4Digital Radio

4Digital Radio

Has anyone spotted any recent news about the DAB Radio stations being launched by Channel 4? It all seems to have gone very quiet(not to be confused with their current online only radio station).

They were awarded the licence last year and should be launching some of the stations in the summer.

I think they’re aiming for a overly ambitious 10 stations to be rolled out over the next few years.

Two of their stations will contain comedy:-
E4 radio (audience target 15-29)
Channel 4 Radio (audience target 30 – dead)

Has anyone heard if any indy prod companies have been approached or are bidding for any work? Or will C4 be producing material in-house.

I sent them an email last week asking for further info, still waiting for a reply

This may be of some relevance but I also read an article last week that digital radio may very well be nothing more than a very expensive white elephant. Apparently people are not buying into it which means that it might not be around in the years to come and perhaps that’s why it’s all gone quiet with regard to Channel 4.

Personally, I love a bit of DAB first thing in the morning but as for the future of digital radio, who knows.

Yep read something very similar during the week. It seemed to be prompted by a company called GCap closing a few of it's stations (The Jazz and Planet Rock) to concentrate on core buisiness (Classic FM etc). I read some of the quotes as sour-grapes on GCap's part...ie we can't get our products to work so everybody else will fail as well :D

Personally I think digital radio will now be around forever (famous last words Laughing out loud ). The technology will change regularly, we mightn't receive the broadcasts via traditional boxes on shelves but I don't think it's going anywhere.

The main thing I likes about the sound of C4's proposed channels was the fact they were going to offer an alternative to BBCs vocal-based stations, a bit of competition would be healthy.
