What are you gaming? Page 131

Gaaahhh!

Say Lofty, what console you on?

Xbox mate

Ahhh never mind then :)

Holy shit

Gta v is astonishing

Ambulances turn up an paramedics tend to your victims

You can be driving down the road and some cops will be chasing other criminals so you can tag along and see what happens when they manage to pull them over - some times they end in huge gun fights in the middle of the street

Both of those things were in GTA4.

The graphics are amazing though. And having the 7GB load on to the hard drive means you can drive at high speed endlessly with no pop-in and lots of different cars.

Have we got a no spoilers rule in this thread? We should. Rules are fun.

I'm not ready for the bitch/top world of 'rules are fun' just yet but I'll do my best. I've already encountered one surprising event.

I have to say that I think it's appalling that out of three dynamically playable characters there isn't a female one. I don't know what you think. We're expected to be able to imagine ourselves as a pyscho redneck, a punk-ass homeboy and Roy Keane, but not a woman.

Is this a failure of imagination, sexism or 'market forces'? It definitely annoying.

All the bullshit problems with IV seem to have been sorted (...)

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. They've fixed the cover thing, where you would Riverdance next to a crate in a warehouse before being shot in the head, but a couple of things that have always annoyed me about GTA remain.

You'll nearly always fail a mission at the first attempt because they haven't made it clear enough what you have to do. They've also continued with putting control information up in the middle of a mission that you either read and die or ignore and probably never learn. Why can't they pause the action for a second while they put up the words?

You'll still fail a beautifully executed mission by getting the wheel of your car stuck in a potplant at the last moment, or some idiot with you will refuse to get into the vehicle you're driving while the cops slowly crowd round and begin to pepper your head.

I just got my Rotweiller - "Chop"

He's stupid

And literally gay!

I haven't really found that a huge problem, to be honest. A couple of times I failed a mission on the first attempt because I wasn't sure where I was going and wandered into a restricted area or something, but in general I've been okay with reading the instructions from the screen. They tend to stay up for longer than I recall with IV.

Plus, it doesn't matter so much, because the checkpoint system means you won't have to replay much of what you've already done if you do f**k up.

I haven't come across either of those problems. With IV, if you overshot a single turn-off by a foot you'd usually have to restart from the beginning, but I haven't found that the case with V. I've rolled my car down a cliff and still managed to flip it back onto its wheels and chase down whoever and complete the mission just fine.

It could be that I was playing IV so much in recent weeks that my muscle memory is fresh, but I'm finding all the missions so far to be challenging but not frustrating.

I'm not trying to gold-medal every mission yet of course. On replays I reckon I might start agreeing with you.

After 13 hours of the game I've seen all of the annoying issues that Godot has encountered. They're certainly present and annoying.

The biggest improvements for me though is the actual gameplay mechanics. Particularly the driving. It's improved dramatically and feels a lot more like the most recent Driver than the last GTA.

It's an incredibly 'alive' feeling map, which is the best thing. The spontaneous content is extraordinary, and the depth of filling from AI is really something else. It certainly has the feel of the world from Red Red Redemption and feels like a living, breathing city.

I'm conflicted on the issue of no playable female character in the storyline. I'd like one; it is always nice to play a well rounded female character. But I've got a proper hypocrite feminist blinker when it comes to some franchises like GTA. I kind of don't really mind because it is so good. And because the game's general inbuilt sexism is reflective of modern life it doesn't necessarily detract from the game. I don't see it that any of the characters would have been improved by being a woman.

Surely GTA is aimed at a male audience

The amount of female gamers who would be interested in playing a game of this type must be pretty small

Cars, guns, racing, gangsters...

Not really a girl thing ?!

That's what most people assume, but I'm certainly not alone. And I think lots of people underestimate how many male gamers might chose to play as a female character. I know the the majority of my (male) friends had a FemShep in Mass Effect.

What games do you imagine girl gamers play?
RPG hairdressing? ;)

I don't understand the whole "there should be a female character" argument. Nobody complained that none of the Reservoir Dogs were women. Some stories are just about men. It's not like Rockstar has quotas. They're not the BBC.

Has anyone read all this guff about your not supposed to install disc 2?

Well I took the advice and played off te disc and the noise drove me crackers

So I thought balls to it and I now have both discs installed on the HD

And it's fine....

S'that all abootttt?

Yeah I'm not really big on quotas. If it makes sense to the developers for a character to be female, then great. But if it doesn't fit naturally I'd rather it wasn't there.

It's funny you say Resevoir Dogs though, I can't get Michael as Mr Blonde out of my head.

Is this about the older 360s going cough cough groan? I think it depends what system you're on and what HD you're rocking. We haven't had any issues PS3 side.

Rockstar say not to install the 'play' disc at it can cause performance problems and to play it from the the disk

Have you heard how loud the Xbox disc drive is??

It's like a bloody jet engine

Fk that!

In other news I blew up a moving petrol tanker with a shotgun tonight

BOOOOOOOOOOOMM !!!

Kin ell!

Chaos

My PS3 is running very loudly at the moment. Going to try to get hold of some compressed air. I'd like it to not explode during this playthrough if at all possible.
