Something old, something new to me? Page 2

The Old Guys?

Old Guys is great ... sorry it was cancelled. Both series aired here but I hope to own it for repeated watching. I like Vicious, too. Must have a thing for older men!

Marriage Lines could be worth a look. It's a little more couple-y than family (as the name may suggest), but domestic and gentle in spades.

I have absolutely no recollection of doing so, but apparently I reviewed the DVD: https://www.comedy.co.uk/shop/marriage_lines_dvd_review/

Richard Briers -- great! Sounds perfect. I recently saw a "special" called All About The Good Life that made me remember what a great comedy genius he was. Nice to have another chance to watch him work.

Put a pre-order in for this, too: https://www.comedy.co.uk/shop/item/3499/all_in_good_faith_the_complete_first_series_dvd/ :)

Done! Thanks again.

Dear John
Brush Strokes

Keep meaning to pick these two up myself

Enjoyed them on telly when I was a kid

On The Buses

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em

Keeping Up Appearances

Till Death Us Do Part

Steptoe And Son

Given your tastes and instructions I'd also recommend 2 sitcoms written by George Layton - Don't Wait Up and Executive Stress.

I have Executive Stress and enjoyed it ... although I didn't enjoy the change from Geoffrey Palmer to Peter Bowles. I thought Keith and Bowles were great together in To the Manor Born but I liked the Geoffrey Palmer husband better in this one.

Don't Wait Up is on my wish list as is Steptoe, Brush Strokes, Dear John and On the Buses. For those of us who could only get our British comedy fix from PBS for a long while, Keeping Up Appearances wore a little thin...Maybe someday I can watch it again but I feel as though I know every line and that stops being fun.

I'll look into Some Mothers and Till Death... don't know them at all.

Thanks for the suggestions!

You'll only really find pleasant domesticity in Don't Wait Up of those, and to an extent Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em (which is a genuine classic and not to be missed under any circumstances) - the others are all very good, and you may well enjoy many or all, but not quite in the gentle vein you originally described.

Thanks... I've been pretty lucky to find a few clips of most things on YouTube so I'll check out Some Mothers particularly.

Some Mothers is a classic and brillant you would enjoy it

One of my personal favourites which rarely gets a mention, is Watching with the wonderful and sharp witted Emma Wray. Some great characters especially as the show develops. Emma Wray's mother especially from Series 5 I think is wonderful.

If nothing else it great to see the fashions of the late 80s and early 90s.

Any news on the DVD release of The Green Green Grass Series 4, Rose?
