Hi Guys I wanted to discuss with you guys about VHS being 100 pound back in the 80s. Is this true? Also when did they stopped making VHS?
Were VHS £100 back in the 80s?
Not sure if they were £100, but I certainly recall seeing adverts in old magazines stating prices of around £50.
And the rest. They were several hundred quid in the early 80s. I doubt even the cheapest got as low as £100 until late in the decade.
Didn't someone put a 1980s Argos catalogue up online recently? Find that and see the prices.
Maybe on here somewhere. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lavalampmuseum/sets/72157619081815831/
I'm sure this is Wolf from Gladiators. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lavalampmuseum/3590157067/in/set-72157619081815831
Tapes or machines?

That's what I was going to ask.
I certainly paid well into the hundreds for a Sony C7 (betamax - better than VHS by a mile).
Surely no one would think a video tape was £100!
I was thinking he meant tape.
I remember that renting films was £5 a night with a £40 deposit.
Derann Dudley.
.
I can remember VHS tapes costing £69.99 each to buy and a blank 120 costing £19.99. Why do you think we rented the f**kers.
And Laser Discs. They never caught on. But you could rent them.

This.
The last VHS tapes commercially released (i.e. films and TV shows for sale) in the UK were in, I think, 2004.
VCRs for consumers stopped being produced in about 2008, although you can still buy combined VCR/DVD/Blu-ray units, and USB-connected players for digitisation. Blank VHS tapes are still available, but no longer widely so.
Are you lot talking about the 1880s? 70 quid for a tape???
They still sell blank VHS tapes in Poundland. It cheers me right up to see them.
