Hopefully he'll stay there.

You disagree with anti-poverty activism?

I do not believe there is more child abuse now than in the past. More reported - possibly. But the idea that 'crime is on the increase' is a myth. Crime figures generally remain steady. People are people - always have been, always will be.

Yes. I'm also for substituting the poor for live game. Tally-ho, proles!

I've had to stop reading the below link when I got the the section:

"Nearly three quarters of those who committed rape said they did so for reasons of "sexual entitlement". Report author Dr Emma Fulu said: "They believed they had the right to have sex with the woman regardless of consent. "The second most common motivation reported was to rape as a form of entertainment, so for fun or because they were bored." That was followed by using rape as a form of punishment or because the man was angry.

Disturbing survey. There seems to be a general view that 'she's my wife, therefore she must have sex with me.'

A view accepted in this country until 1991.

As in "That's my money, I can stick it in a tax haven whenever I want".

But there is a question about why people would choose to dwell on the most dire aspects of the opposite sex when they could be considering the good ones.

""More than half of non-partner rape perpetrators first did so as adolescents, which affirms that young people are a crucial target population for prevention of rape."

I am reminded of a problem reported in some elephant populations; females are being fatally raped by adolescent males. Researchers blame the problem on the poaching older bulls removing sexual role models. Bad or absent male parenting is certainly a contributing factor in sexual violence.

I do agree with Nat and Jennie, well being female I would?..... do not see how a bloke can speak in any personal way of what rape is to a girl/woman???.....

oppression/violence happens every day- the 'guilty' verdicts in crime cases such as rape is appallingly low? why is this??

I wouldn't say that it was an accepted view, not of decent men anyway, more that there was no law in place to address it before then.

I see it less as a sex/gender issue and more of a crime issue for the consensually challenged.

I love men. Men are great. But there are a few bad boy apples, just as there are a few bad girl apples.

Men get raped too, Dellas. There is a greater social stigma attached too. :(

A variety of reasons, but often because it boils down to one person's word against another.

Yes, I suppose I meant 'accepted view' in the sense that it was legally permissible and the law is a reflection of the attitudes of a society.

That's interesting.

Is it lower than with other crimes?

Heresy, when was the last time a herectic got convicted in the UK?

Jennie, I was not addressing the topic of male rape?....do not know the figures for this crime?..do you as a barrister?- how many reported cases and crime convictions are you aware of?

Well Michael Le vell has been found not guilty? strange story? He has known family for many years- crazy world.

Della's the last time you went on a probably grape fuelled feminist rampage.
you managed to chase off 4 posters for months
They were all ladies
So sweety wind your neck in, before you turn into Jemima clarkson

Also jenny I suspect knows vastly more about rape prosecutions and the law than either of us

So why not as her and then listen to her answers

Bit harsh!
