You are a man of exquisite taste. My two favourite American bands of all time.
A couple more from them:

Thanks - but you might change your mind after the next set of comments.

Observatory Crest by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
10cc - Headline Hustler , John Mayall - Crawling Up A Hill, Van Morrison - Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child, Robert Plant - Fat Lip, The Kinks - Do It Again, Traffic - Riding High, Led Zeppelin - Ramble On, The Waterboys - The Big Music
Enjoyed those too. The Waterboys are one of my favourite groups. The Robert Plant track is from the album preceding "The Principle of Moments" (1983) which featured "Big Log". Several mates were fans of Plant and it was the time when I took to him more. It was often said that Led Zep were one of two rock bands indie fans could comfortably like. The other was the Doors. Not that I was prepared to be narrowed down in that way. 10cc's 'Headline Hustler' is even more relevant today than when it was released. The outstanding track, of course, is the one by Van Morrison. I could easily listen only to Van records for the rest of my life.
Billy Joel - The Ballad Of Billy The Kid, Mason Williams - Classical Gas, The Mamas and the Papas - Creeque Alley, Beach Boys - Let Us Go On This Way, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Observatory Crest, Steely Dan - Don't Take Me Alive
All good. Nice to hear the acoustic version of 'Classical Gas'. I nearly posted that tune two weeks ago when it was Mason Williams' 75th birthday. Billy Joel is easily dismissed but was often very good before mega success. A story teller like Harry Chapin. The Beach Boys song is a bit clunky but then it is from 1977, one of their difficult periods. Not one of my favourite Mamas songs - it isn't very pc - but the Dan there are at their sophisticated best. It's the Captain's that I would choose above them all. A timeless, beautiful, song.

New to me; enjoyed that.
Thanks for the comments, Mr. Horseradish. I agree with "Tursi" about your taste.
I agree with you on RHCP...Id never call myself fan of theirs. But I think there's a lot of talent covered under the forced goofy posturing an yet urge for mainstream success. It's exactly said mainstream success since the beginning of the 90s that made them become very formulaic and crowd (mostly teenagers)pleasing.

It's amazing how the Captain's voice that normally sounds like Howlin' Wolf's becomes fragile and moving on such sweet and calm songs.

I like the song mostly because of that line "...McGuinn and McGuire just a-gettin' higher..." I have to as a Byrds fan.

Sparks - I Can't Believe You Would Fall For All the Crap in this Song, XTC - Love at First Sight, Tears For Fears - Advice For The Young At Heart, Fad Gadget - Luxury, A-Ha - Locust, Flash and The Pan - Ivy Love, The The - December Sunlight
Thanks for your generous comments. I had a very productive night. This is my third set of thoughts of three. I liked most of these, especially the first three and The The. Sparks have been extraordinary and the one with glasses - Ron? - always makes me laugh. Tears For Fears had some very good moments. I like them best early and late. The The were great, particularly "Soul Mining". Is that Brianna Corrigan singing with him? It sounds like her voice. Predictably, the XTC song is my favourite of the bunch but only just.

The daughter of lead singer David Paton is apparently recording. Can't find any clips of her though.
And his brother Tam Paton managed the Bay City Rollers.
