Let number of trees=x
Last Year there were x (squared) pears
This year there were (x (squared) - 640) pears
Pears per tree this year is 72 so:
(x (squared) -640) / x = 72
x (squared) -640 = 72x
x (squared) -72x -640 = 0
(X-80) (x+8) = 0
x = 80 (or x=-8)
