British Comedy Guide

Sitcom bloggers/lovers

Hi all,

I've recently started a sitcom blog (http://thesitcomspace.wordpress.com) and would love to hear any views on sitcoms old and new. Any advice you have on which shows you think I should review etc is most welcome.

Also would love to hear opinions on Chickens with Simon Bird!

Thanks in anticipation

Hi,

I think you should work through sitcoms like OFAH, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and any old sitcoms first. Then review the recent sitcoms. I think Chickens is boring.

Hope that Helps! :)

I agree with David, if you're going to be analyzing them or commenting on evolution of the genre or even on individuals start with the older ones and work up.

A potential angle you could go with is starting with a particular actor first, watch as much of their work as you can find and then comment on the career as a whole or the actor's evolution as a comedian. For example: if you were to start with Rowan Atkinson, you could look at his early roles, Blackadder, Bean, The Thin Blue Line, Comic Relief, stand-up, Johnny English, etc,. Or, do the same with producers or writers, look at their early work and then progress through to their most recent and comment on that. Might be quite interesting to do. I've done that just for my own enjoyment with French and Saunders and it's incredible if you really watch to see how much they change as entertainers.

Good luck with it, I look forward to reading!

Or you could start with a particular writer first. Like John Sullivan start with OFAH then go to Citizen Smith etc. Then start with another writer like Roy Clarke.

Good Luck! Let us know what you have done so far! :)

You should try these sitcoms and see how you get on.

On The Buses, Only Fools And Horses, Man About The House, George & Mildred, Steptoe And Son, Gavin & Stacey, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Porridge, Open All Hours.

Just been to the site, a good read. Will keep visiting.
