Good to hear that song Mr R. That style just seems to get better over the years.

Thanks a lot. IF I didn't Have You'...a wonderful Randy Newman song sung by Billy Crystal & John Goodman. Oh, and the film was good too.

Love that one and the film "Monsters Inc". The Nick Cave lists were interesting. Your list and the one from Shaggy are a useful reminder of just how much he has achieved. I was very keen on over half of your selections including the one you say might be your favourite. If I were to choose just one CD by him, it would be "The Boatman's Call".

Enjoyed the blues tracks. They were rangy. I dipped into Cheap Trick. Not exactly "me" but they confirmed what I thought about them. Better earlier on. Mainly at their best when somehow managing to be rock, punk and Beatlesesque. Scott Walker and Nick Drake good. The Righteous Brothers pleasant. Not so keen on that Dolphin song by Prince though.

Have you heard OX4 ? Amazing song

Not sure. Possibly not. I will find it. Thanks.

Kayleighs seem to pop up all over the place, in fact one of the barworkers at the Wetherspoons in Wolverhampton was a Kayleigh......

Enjoyed that story. Maybe there weren't/aren't as many in Greater London.

Which ones are you missing GB? I'll give you my obviously totally unbiased opinion of whether you need to nab them or not (basically don't bother with 'Less is More' and most certainly do bother with the rest!)

"Official" releases I do not own: Made Again, Less Is More, Marbles Live and Sounds That Can't Be Made.

I had the chance to buy Less Is More relatively cheap once. But I wasn't very keen on the concept of re-recording old(er) songs in an accoustic context so I gave it a miss. I have "Live At Cadogan Hall" which I do enjoy...I think this "stripped down" concept works a little bit better in a live setting.

These are the Marillion CDs I do own:

Script For A Jester's Tear
Fugazi (Expanded)
Real To Reel/Brief Encounter
Misplaced Childhood
Clutching At Straws
"The Thieving Magpie" (La Gazza Ladra)
B'Sides Themselves
Seasons End
Holidays In Eden
A Singles Collection 1982-1992: Six Of One, Half-Dozen Of The Other
Brave
Afraid Of Sunlight
This Strange Engine
Radiation
marillion.com
Anoraknophobia
Anorak In The UK Live
Marbles
Somewhere Else
Happiness Is The Road, Volume 1: Essence
Happiness Is The Road, Volume 2: The Hard Shoulder
Live From Loreley
The Singles '82-88'
Recital Of The Script
The Official Bootleg Box Set Vol. 2
Live From Cadogan Hall
Best.Live.
The Official Bootleg Collection 1982-1988: Early Stages - The Highlights
The Singles Vol. 2 '89-95'

Tender by Blur is one my favourite live songs, so here it is with Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller joining in:

Well, for starters you need to get 'Sounds' pronto, it is unquestionably up there with the very best they've ever done. I'd agree that if you have 'Cadogan Hall' you really don't need the studio L=M.

So 'Fugazi' is the only one you have the 2-disc remaster of? Even as a hardcore, I have to say that most of the stuff on those is 'interesting' but not essential. The exceptions would be the 'Holidays in Eden' disc, and especially the 'Clutchng at Straws' one, which has the demos from what would have been the 5th Fish-era album, had they not fallen apart. Most of the lyrics ended up on Fish's first couple of solo albums, and most of the music was reworked for 'Seasons End' so it all sounds familiar in a 'wrong' sort of way, but it's fascinating.

Along similar lines, do you have the 2-disc version of 'Marbles'? If not you're missing out on the best half hour of that album outside of 'The Invisible Man' IMHO ('Genie', 'The Only Unforgivable Thing' and 'Ocean Cloud').

It's not that I don't want it. I'm waiting until I can get it at a lower price.

Sadly, yes, it's the only two disc edition remaster I have. I have Holydays In Eden in a non remastered original edition, so it would come in handy if I'd get the two disc remaster. By the way, are these editions still in print?

Yes, I bought the two CD version a few months ago.

Yep, with the exception of 'Seasons End' (which EMI took out of print for reasons unknown) the 2-disc remasters are still available. :)

Arguably the most commercial sounding of the lot. :S

Hadn't realised they had got together and in a good cause. At 55 and 46/45, they are a bit like the older brother and the younger brothers to many of us of a certain age. I agree that "Tender" is a good song.

"Drowning In My Own Tears" is a classic. Arguably, the most famous versions are by Ray Charles and Dinah Washington. Very surprisingly, it was also sung with considerable impact by Mick Hucknall early in his career.
