Have just had a look at Roger Cook. "Home Lovin' Man" was a song and so too "Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart". He also collaborated with John Prine and Hugh Cornwell. Blue Mink, of course, had Madeline Bell.

Yep - played all them too. Do like the Andy Williams song as I like story songs.

Gasoline Alley Bred by the Hollies

One of my favourite Hollies songs, bit of a forgotten gem that one. :)

They did some fantastic stuff - including the Graham Gouldman songs - but you usually get "He aint heavy" or "the air that I breathe" on the radio all the time. Both good songs but I don't want to hear them again - even with Elton's piano.

Bought this 4 disc Cheap Trick compilation for a reasonable price (about 14 £) in a grotty little store. This is out of print so it was a kind of bargain.

Any thoughts on Cheap Trick?

Good for that sort of thing.

Undiluted rock. A slight hint of punk. Get "At Budokan".

What a great video this is -

Like me some Cheap Trick, need to get more of their albums, only have a couple. Great live band, Robin Zander's voice is still fully intact, unlike many of his contemporaries!

Yes, one of the reasons I don't listen to the radio. IMHO the Elton trivia is the best thing about 'He Ain't Heavy'! (Of course he also played on 'I Can't Tell the Bottom From the Top', a song ahead of its time in its handling of dominance and submission roles within the gay community).

Seem to have loved the Hollies from an early age, there's a pic of me aged 3 or so playing my Mum's old 45s and it's 'I'm Alive' on the turntable!

Already got that one. One of the great 70s live albums.

I've got their first four albums. But a friend of mine has their two latest one's. And he's confirming what you wrote: they sound exactly the same as during their heydays. Songwriting wise they're still/again great...but Zander's voice hasn't aged a bit.

......I haven't heard their latest stuff.

You have bought it?

NPR excellent as usual:

It sounds great to me. 1970 is my No 1 year of music. Could never be anything obvious!

Greil Marcus being savage about the original didn't help him. Hence "New Morning" later in that year.

The cover might look a bit like Dylan then technically. In essence, it's a familiar someone else.

Lou Reed, David Byrne, Pete Molinari? Not quite sure.

Footnote - I've now got it. Think it's John Cale!

As a boy I loved the James Bond franchise (I think it has become shit, anyway) now every new Bootleg Series release is like Christmas for me. I can't think of any better series in any art form. I wonder how long they can manage to release every couple of years another volume with top notch material like this.

Yes...looks a bit like him and that would make sense.

I've got the NPR thing on now. It is BRILLIANT.

"Idiot Wind" could well be the pinnacle of sneer.

But did he ever do "sweetness" better than here?

Thanks for the link.
