There is a bloke with a picture of him and his cat though. I think you'd quite like him!

Sounds nice...as long as the cat isn't his only "piece of clothing" in the picture. If it was I'd say he's a little weird.

I know I might get slammed for this, but I have always found internet dating a little bit DESPERATE and CREEPY!

If you are that desperate it is not so difficult to find someone; if anything people tend to end up going online precisely because they are picky, perhaps too picky in some cases.

The main reason for internet dating is that you reach a stage in your life where you realise that there is no longer much potential for meeting people through work or friends. You can try to meet people through taking up new interests, but joining a class or a club just so you can hit on the opposite sex really is creepy. Not everyone is comfortable chatting up strangers in bars, so the internet is a rationale choice for maximising your opportunities.

CREEPY!

Bit rich coming from a guy with THAT avatar and who also regularly mutilates his kids! ;)

It's when I found myself standing outside an old folks home with a bag of werthers originals that I knew it was time for a change.

I can't think of anything that sounds more desperate than going and getting drunk and attempting to 'pick up' someone else drunk.

Don't knock it, it's how

Am with Tursie on this, very easy for coupled up smugs to knock it.

Yup some of us are tired for looking for love in the clinical waster bin outside the coroners office.

I wouldn't say tired exactly...it's more the smell does get a bit much at times.

hey sometimes you get lucky and they chuck some stiff out who was just having a really deep kip.

Speak for yourself Sootyj...I've never been that lucky.

This this this.

Approaching someone in person with the intent of initiating sexual congress is way more creepy. With online dating you're so far removed from the person that it's a safer space to get to know someone without all of that horrible awkwardness. Plus you can look at their favourite TV shows before you decide to talk to them which is a huge bonus. Almost all of my meaningful romantic relationships are with people I've met either directly or indirectly through the internet.

Yup I used to do loads of voluntary work and it was always sweet when a couple of vollies, after some weeks working together decided they were right.
Sweet but rare.
The predatory guys who rocked up because there were kindly, sympathetic ladies around were uber creepy.
In days gone by communities had real or implicit match makers. Some very sophisticated friends of mine have paid for a matchmaking service.
But I guess internet dating is progress.
And there's a good few couples met up through BCG.

Dan and I met through the Mighty Boosh (shut up, we were young and foolish) forum and we've been together 6 years and are getting married next September. Learning about who someone is is a way better way of determaining your campatability than meeting someone in a bar and making a snap decision on whether or not you'd do sexy things at them.
