Online Dating

Has anyone ever tried it? Had any success with it?

One of my friends is single but in the "I really need to get married and have a baby by tomorrow" phase and being really annoying with it.

I suggested she try OD. I immediately regretted it, as she said she would try it as long as I did it too. (Which is a little odd..it's not like we'll be going on double dates).

Problem is, it seems like my idea of hell. How can you know if you are attracted to someone if you've never met them? What if you have nothing to talk about?

Anyway, despite my reservations we're going for it. Anyone know which is the best site to use?

I knew a married couple who had met via match.com, but they're the only couple who have ever brought it up so I can't say if they're typical or not.

We've got another thread on this somewhere.

I dated about a dozen women a few years ago through three different sites and have been with my current woman for 4 years.

Plenty of Fish being free is good but you could get caught by the wrong hook.

Maybe you could! It might make it less awkward/less likely to be sex murdered.

'zooo pisses on Jennie's flame of hope . .'

:P

They've worked for me in 3 ways:

1. Met someone who I now consider to be my good close friend.
2. Got laid.
3. Met my current girlfriend.

Of course I had to go through 100s of crazy people first. But all in all, much like this website or any other social website. You get chatting to someone, and if there is a click, you chat more and more until you decide to meet up and it just goes from there.

TIP: Don't give out your phone number willy-nilly. Instead opt for a chat/text service like Kik, so you can easily delete/block them if they turn out crazy. It took me a while to figure this out and I still receive occasional texts from random nutters who I gave my number out to asking "Why don't you talk to me any more?". Errr

Well why don't you?

Because some of them were genuinely terrifying.

See, this would be my concern. I emit a weirdo homing signal at the best of times. Online, I can see this being 100 times worse.

Thanks, for all your posts. I think the essential problem is I just don't want to. To take Lee's three objectives (all of which are extremely laudable):

1. I have enough friends.
3. I don't want a boyfriend.
As for 2. well, everything is fine. Ahem.

So I might back out. But, I still think she needs to go for it. Has anyone tried lovestruck.com? That looks quite good.

I see my main role as offering a fake emergency phone call service if things go wrong.

Will definitely suggest she does this, thanks.

I'd say there was no harm in having a profile and then just being extremely picky about who you talk to. If you get something out of it, great. If you don't, nothing lost (if you use a free site).

One of the member of this forum met her BF via match.com

I know one couple who were married in June after meeting on a dating site, and two others who are engaged.

But they simply just aren't 'for' some people, and if you don't want to then you won't get anything out of it (quite the opposite), so don't let yourself be forced into it.

"Hi, I'm Jennie. Nice to meet you. Can I just say, before we start talking...
