Yes the age of consent is a cultural relative, but all societies accept that there is an age below which sexual activity is wrong; even the Prophet waited until Ayesha was nine before consummating the marriage.
But the truth is that in most societies middle aged men make the rules and young girls do not get much say in how they feel about it. Recent events in Pitcairn are a good case study.

Quite, quite. Very grey area. What purpose does such a conviction have? My cousins were more mature at around 14 than many of my own friends at 19. There's a good decade or so of ages that the law needs complete reform in regard to. One size doesn't fit all.

But they are 'different', if there is a stigma scale, paedophilia should be at the top for good reasons that I really don't think even need thrashing out here. Sex abusers have to be stopped and be kept stopped. Arguing the toss of who is more 'special' is just academic airblowing.
