Great song. I only knew Clapton's version. It has a bit of Bo Diddley in it.

According to Eric on Facebook

"Apparently today is the 36th anniversary of the release of my first 45, Whole Wide World. I never imagined that life could be this long."

Been listening to the Inmates and now a Family compilation. Love Roger Chapman's voice. (And Bill Hurley's come to that.)

If you don't know the Inmates check out Dirty Water among others.

Know Family - Chapman has a very distinctive voice as you say - but not the Inmates. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for that. Am not on FB but will find out more.

I've found Rachel Sweet. She bought Madonna's pad apparently.

The song got to No 35 here. She deserved better.

From the Blockheads on Facebook.

"We have a release date for our NEW ALBUM! 'Same Horse Different Jockey' - It will be out on the 23rd November - 35 years to the day that 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' was released!"

Great title eh?

The former jockey was a great 'un. I wonder how they will sound today.

I did see them a couple of years ago. The new "singer" was apparently Ian's chauffeur.

I wasn't really sure about him - a bit kind of cliched cockney but the band were still shit-hot.

Yes, that's very good. A tough act to follow, mind........
