British Teenagers: Worst ever in history of world? Page 4

Huh? I was talking about Liverpool T.V. writers, not T.V writers in general. I was trying to highlight the irony of them doing so much damage to their own city's reputation.

I was talking about the thread title.

There seems to be more mindless attacks as well. Gangs used to pick on other gangs or if they mugged you, as long as you give them what they want they'll leave you alone. Now you here about them just setting on random people and kicking the shit out of them just for the thrill of it.

In response to the thread title.

The problem is not the teenagers themselves (the streets have always been full of footpads and ne'er do wells) but that the police and the law don't deal with them effectively.

I'd agree whole heartedly with the Joey Barton thing but when has Wayne Rooney ever been in trouble with the law?

That's tosh. It's up to people, whatever age, to moderate their behaviour in respect to others. You seem to be suggesting that if a pensioner is beaten senseless by a gang of thirteen year olds and left with a face like a prune, it's not their fault, but the police's.

I jsut found out my phone was knocked out by little bastards breaking into the junction box.

Arm all pensioners with machine guns hidden in their sholleys, and let them kill the bastards

Ok - here's my two penneth, as my Dad used to say. I know loads of teenagers. There is NOWHERE for them to go where we live. A few weeks ago, they came out of a swimming session and were hanging around, chatting and eating chips, when another gang of hoodies approached them and pinched one of their hats. He ignored them, so they punched him in the face. They ran away, as advised by their parents, as the others were obviously looking for trouble and may have had weapons.

A week later, the same lad was leaving off work at 10pm and was on the phone to his Dad asking if he could go to the chippie with his mates before he was picked up. A Police car drove past and the officer inside shouted at them to clear off. They tried to explain what they were doing and he shouted even louder, 'are you ignoring me, clear off!'

I also know a few Policeman. One of them was recently one of only two officers covering 30, yes THIRTY, parishes over a weekend. They often do not have the time or resources to handle incidents like this. This does not excuse the behaviour above, but does explain why they cannot deal with every incident, or simply be 'on the beat' and getting to know the local lads.

So, that mixed bag leaves me thinking that there are many reasons for these problems and no one person or organisation can be blamed.

'Course they can! The Government! :)

You made a post in another thread Aaron which was spot on but I can't find it now

Mmm, not sure you can blame the Government for parenting problems, which are SOMETIMES a contributory factor.

Parents have a duty to bring their children up with something called a conscience.
Sometimes when they do their offspring ignore it or lose it.
Parenting is f**king hard & extremely horrible but you have to do it to the very best of your ability. Often parents have been almost perfect & still their child can grow into a wrong un. They fall into the wrong crowd or something happens to affect the way they feel.
I know good & bad parents. Good in that they are 100% there for their children, bad in that they are giving anything less.
I have made horrendous mistakes with parenting. I blame myself that one has gone in the Army. I can not correct those mistakes but I can learn from them.
I count my lucky stars that Jack’s only vice is a bit of weed & Kyle has NEVER been in trouble with the police.

Laughing out loud Don't be ridiculous, of course I am not suggesting anything remotely like that.

It's up to the police to patrol the streets and prevent these gangs from taking over street corners. Kids hanging around on street corners should be moved on. They used to be. Kids in gangs are regularly recorded on CCTV (there is loads of CCTV technology under utilised) and the police should then be monitoring their behaviour, but they don't. When a crime is committed by these gangs they should be caught, but they aren't. When they are caught, punishment should be severe, but it isn't.

THAT'S the problem...

The solution is that we need more police on the beat, more prisons and courts that dish out severe punishments.

That you expect people to moderate their own behaviour shows a woeful lack of realism on your part. You need to see people as they are, not as they should be. :)

Referees are the law in my book.

That's why I hurl abuse at them all the time.
