If you only know Chicago for their hit ballads this one would probably surprise you (as would any of their first dozen or so albums for that matter). Opens with a bunch of jazzy instrumentals such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK_QvAaLB_c before moving on to more usual song-based fare, starting with this wee gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAO0jXNbqJo

Yep. This is my favourite early Chicago "hit":

Ah yes, with the piano intro, as God intended!

Wow! What a classic! Great to watch too. How did you discover it?

The opening instrumental section reminded me of Steve Reich.

Will be showing it to my kids. :)

And watching it myself a good few more times.

We're fast approaching the milestone of 1000 pages for this thread, but will Chappers be here in time to celebrate???

A song from the Police Academy soundtrack:

In the same vein: Shakedown from Bob Seger from the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack:

Typical 80s fluff but rekindles childhood memories.

:D It was probably the Imagined Village which took me to Chris Wood. An internet pal originally sent me that link. It's a favourite. I've fallen way behind on this thread today. Will need to catch up soon. I did, though, spot Rotary Connection who were produced by the great Charles Stepney. While not in favour of over-reaching histrionics, I've always liked natural vocal range. Minnie Riperton, who was in RC, is my all-time number one female soul singer. These two songs are both by her and from the early-mid sixties:

Good to hear those - Beach Boys, Temps, Godley and Creme, etc - and to see the real Sally Carr again. Anathema could easily be more well-known. Chicago always sound better than expected. I wonder though if anyone has ever found them accessible. It's all those albums with roman numerals. Didn't they also move around in convoys of trucks and private jets? Still, what was - and is - good enough for Fleetwood Mac!

That Zappa-Boney M segway.* Totally bizarre. Pure genius.

Frank was extraordinary. And virtually ignored by radio.

But life changes.

There's still a chance to listen to the Zappa Prom -

(* Surely the original wasn't THAT erotic - you've added noises from somewhere!)
