Although even planes are less horrific sounding than an 18-30 type holiday. Yikes.

Oh me too. I had to have someone hold my hand all the way back on an EasyJet flight from Glasgow. We were only in the air for about 20 secs.
Problem is I don't really understand how they stay up. Yes I know the whole "four forces acting on the plane thing" but it just seems like airy fairy hokum to me.
I have also seen a lot of disaster documentaries. 
The interior of the plane seems to jiggle as it was made out of cheap plastic parts. I always fear the plane breaks apart.

I love London, but it took me a while to get used to. I grew up in a small city in the Midlands where things are cheap. London is neither small or cheap.
The transport is hideous (I would class a "short" journey as one that takes under an hour) and everything is big and overwhelming. I miss the countryside, the green, the easy pace of life. I miss knowing the names of people on my street.
But, having said all that, it is God's own city.
I nearly took a job in Sydney, but just couldn't move that far away from my family. Off to New Zealand next year though, and think I'll try and do Oz at the same time.
I hope to one day but so far have only visited. It's going to make me sound like a freak but despite never having lived in London, I feel very at home there. I admit I've probably only been to the nicer bits, but I've lived in places in Australia that felt less like home than London does to me.
Also I love big cities. I spent five and a half years when I was growing up, living in the country and hated every minute.
You should definetly go to Sydney. I've only been the once but the Harbour is incredible. If you are going to come all that way, you may as well check out Melbourne as well. Australia is a massive country, so if you don't have a lot of time, I definetly suggest getting to places by air travel.
