Any particular favourite performers?

I bet there were a few stars of the future in the crowd, members of Quo, Roy Wood, Robert Plant would have been around 15/16 then etc.

Turns out he used to be in the Beta Band, who I remember liking when I saw them on "Later". Been listening to his Glastonbury set quite a bit.

What a great thread. Nick Cave was very good, among many others. I will want to have a look at the clips included. On ones not mentioned, the rapping up of Mas Que Nada by the Sergio Mendes crew would be most politely described as "fun". He, though, is a real stayer. There must also be a mention for this guy -

I find that West Holts stage, which used to be named, not entirely accurately, Jazz World a little bland for much of the day. Later, it's often the key place to be for atmosphere. The night Solomon Burke performed, it was rather like the following clip. It being so incredibly moving and memorable, I felt privileged to be there.

Very nice!

My intro to Solomon was when I bought this album on vinyl around 1980, and first hearing the track "Keep Looking".

Always enjoyed Solomon's appearances on Jools Holland's "Later", such as this one:

Yes, I enjoyed that too. Guess we can do one more Solomon Burke song here without turning it into a thread about him. This is one of my favourites. I particularly like the title because it is a bit offbeat.

I also find it fascinating because I'm sure he doesn't actually sing "electronic". It sounds to me like "electro phonic". If anyone can say why that should be, if it is, or what he is singing if it isn't, I'd be interested.

A good one but I missed it.

The Reverend fathered at least 21 children and had 90 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren at the time of his death. You'd have thought at least one would be able to produce something good. I understand that several are in, quote, neo-soul which may not be too great, especially if they are overdosing on melisma. Still, Melanie, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Gemini or King Solomon Haile Selassie Burke could yet surprise us.
