Thanks for that tip. That, I think, and the boulders on the see-saw. I'm feeling reasonably hopeful.

Not quite the great overlooked AOR masterpiece some folk make it out to be, really only of interest to me as it features Fergie Frederiksen, lead singer of Toto for one album only (but their best, IMHO - 'Isolation')

How do you rate that album, Mr. R? Should I track it down if I like his early 70's work?
'In the Pocket' is one of JTs very best albums, though one of his worst sellers (Wikipedia says it's a fan favourite, but doesn't quote a source. Shocking), which may or may not be linked to his change of record label the following year!
Lots of guest spots (Art Garfunkel, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder) but most importantly some cracking tunes, this is my favourite of the originals (in a live version from the 'No Nukes' album):

And one of the best covers he ever did:
Half Man Half Biscuit - National Shite Day
I knew them by name cos of John Peel, but had never really listened to them properly till I heard this majestic song about a year ago.
Having checked out a few albums, they write some of the funniest, most caustic lyrics around. Brilliant album & song titles. Fun graphics/Artwork too.

Not much for any jazz later than the thirties but I could dig that.

Aw, that's very good indeed. I enjoyed it.
Lots of other good stuff too above including Surf's Up, Getting Away With It, Half Man Half Biscuit and probably most of the other ones.
(I did listen to them all)
The next one is a great hangover cure and so ideal for a Saturday morning.
Taraf de Haidouks - Turceasca

Sharon Shannon and Mundy - Galway Girl

The association with unappetising cider makes me feel guilty for preferring this to the Sharon Shannon/Steve Earle original.

Yes, I feel too that it is better than the Earle one. Bit surprising but still.
I've never seen the advert fortunately. People were shouting the name of the product at their gig. Someone explained the reference to me.

Diana Dors - So Little Time
I really liked the last three. What a pity about Chiwoniso. She was so soulful and, like Lhasa, went far too young. Coming from a dynasty of sorts, her daughters are continuing in the tradition. That should at least help to keep the wonderful mbira music alive.
Didn't know that the Civil Wars were currently in a situation befitting their name. That's also a shame. I loved "Barton Hollow" and, having now dipped into that second CD, think that it too sounds strong. Have noticed it includes an interesting cover of Disarm.
And I've never heard that Diana Dors song. It was pretty good and she was a stunner. Which reminds me that, after the success of Kenny Rogers at Glasto, Mr Eavis must book Dolly Parton for next year's Sunday teatime slot. It has such a special atmosphere.
Speaking of which, here's someone who's done that slot. A happy 87th birthday to one of the good guys:
