More soft rock:

Closer To You - Stephen Stills

Sung by Donnie Dacus, who later had a brief stint with Chicago and re-recorded it with them - always preferred their version:

Given Stills' alleged ego always thought it strange he gave Dacus a couple of leads on 'Illegal Stills', 'Ring of Love' was the other, and a decent cut too.

As for myself, right now it's:

Never seen that pic of the sleeve before. It's quite extreme, isn't it! I think it's too much.

I would have gone with a Smiths style picture sleeve instead,

My main memory of the song is of Weller chewing gum while he sang/mimed on TOTP.
The song itself is very Motown. One of the Jam's best.

I love Ian's voice. So soothing.

Talking of which, JT's has a similar quality, though it's more laid-back.

How do you rate that album, Mr. R? Should I track it down if I like his early 70's work?

I saw this German indie band (Tocotronic) in concert yesterday:

Great! like a cross between New Order and the Smiths.

= Electronic

Although they don't sound anything like the Wedding Present. Go figure! :)

Like both bands though (Electronic & WP).

Electronic

Always liked that one (it has even Neil Tennant in it):

Well, those have got the rest of my evening sorted. :)

But I will throw this one into the pot. Attempts at self-education in jazz can be very fraught. The game is uneven. Others have devoted most of their lives to it and passionately. I just noted some things before an inelegant immersion sometime in 2010. The score in years is now, approximately, The Proper Jazzers 54 Horseradish 3.* In ten years time, it will be 64-13! One thing I find is that the jazz records which really strike me are rarely viewed by aficionados as being "the real thing". It doesn't really matter. I like what I like. Incorporation, though, always feels so nebulous. I can often wonder if there's a secret rule somewhere.

Anyhow, I was bowled over by this track when it was released in 2012. I am still bowled over by it - and that, I guess, is the main thing. Oh and spreading the word if and where that is at all possible. Like now:

Jacob Garchik - The Heavens

(*54 because I reckon 1959 was quite a key year for them, not that I was there)

If it's on Blue Note, or Verve, you're probably in safe hands. :)

Didn't enjoy the first one or two minutes very much...but then I started to get into it. I like it.

Beatles - rubber soul
