Dad's Army Page 16

I'm currently rewatching the show. I must say it's hard for me to watch Harold Bennett's (Mr. Blewitt) performance. I mean he is great...it's his Parkinson disease (or whatever caused his body to tremble) that makes it painful to watch.

Was he young Mister Grace?

I loved him. Thought he made AYBS!

Yes, he was absolutely great in AYBS?.

But in Dad's Army there's for example this scene where the platoon searches Mr. Blewitt's turkey (or chicken) for Cpl. Jones' money. Hard to watch him standing there trembling.

It is sometimes hard to watch characters -- actors -- who are "infirm" in one way or another but I'm also glad that disabilities haven't kept them from doing what they're good at... that there's always room for anyone with talent. (I know, I know, it sounds smarmy but I do think it's true...)

Cpl. Jones' comment on Hodges' attempt at blackmailing the platoon: "As General Kitchener would say 'He's got us by the fuzzy wuzzies'!"

Laughing out loud

The first episode is on iPlayer until Saturday.

Just seen it for the first time, what a tonic. After some of the new sitcoms I've sat through recently I was beginning to think I'd forgotten how to laugh!

Just watched first season today. Very funny sitcom. I saw the origins of many funny moments I've heard people talking about but never knew where came from.

My favourite is the Captain. Corporal Jones had some great moments. The scotsman and the guy who can get any thing.

I actually laughed quite a few times, which is a bit rare for me in sitcoms.

Strong rumours that the THREE missing episodes from Series 2, have been found!

If those "rumours" are based on that page alone, I'm afraid they're 99% certain to prove rather misleading.

That would be great.

That would be sad.

Briliant sitcom. I watched till series 8 now. Two favourite catchfrases don't panic don't panic and stupid boy. Many good laughs in these series

Looks like the missing series 2 episodes begin broadcasting from the 14th with episode 3 The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker . . .

BBC site now listing all 6 episodes . . .

Unless the BBC are about to do a last-minute press release announcing they've somehow managed to keep completely quiet the sudden discovery of three whole episodes, it's not going to happen. I love DigiGuide, but it's not reliable this far in advance.

Radio Times indicates no episode has yet been scheduled: http://www.radiotimes.com/episode/cnh59r/dads-army--14092013

And so it should. The BBC Programmes guide is supposed to be an archive listing everything that's ever been on the BBC ever. It is not a TV guide.

Also, do click through.

Missing Episodes
In the 1960s and 1970s, recordings of television programmes were frequently wiped, so that the tapes could be used to store new material.

This is one of three episodes from series 2 of Dad's Army that are missing from the BBC's archives.

The BBC updates their episode guide and DigiGuide says it (on the same day) and Radio Times has a generic episode placeholder instead of the usual specific episode info . . . instead of dismissing out of hand, maybe look into it?

And yes I did click through and maybe it is nothing, but maybe there is still to be an announcement as broadcast is still over a week away and would be in next weeks hard copy of Radio Times.

I'm dismissing nothing out of hand, just pointing out the reality and unreliability of the so-called "evidence" in the meantime.
