One of a pair of restorations celebrating the work of the important British female film director Wendy Toye, early 60s comedy We Joined The Navy has been newly restored in HD.
Starring screen legend Kenneth More, the naval comedy marks its 60th anniversary this year and is now available on Blu-ray for the first time thanks to archive owner STUDIOCANAL.
Released on Monday 21st November 2022 alongside Toye's earlier crime drama The Teckman Mystery (1954), it includes not only the fully remastered feature film, but two documentaries looking at Toye's work; a behind the scenes stills gallery; and her 1963 short The King's Breakfast, based on A.A. Milne's poem of the same name.
We Joined The Navy follows Lieutenant Commander Robert Badger, an excellent naval officer with one major problem: he speaks the truth at the most inopportune times, leading him to be transferred from ship, to shore, and then to instruct at the Royal Naval College. When his remarks are repeated by one of his students to his father, an anti-military Member of Parliament, he has one last chance to prove himself.
Co-stars in the film include Jeremy Lloyd, Esma Cannon, Derek Fowlds and John Le Mesurier, with a wide range of big-name guest stars such as Sid James and Dirk Bogarde.
Available on both standard definition DVD and high definition Blu-ray, this is just the latest in a long line of classic comedies from the significant film archives in the custodianship of STUDIOCANAL, and we have copies to give away to two lucky winners.
