The quiet village of Warlock is perhaps the most prim and proper place in all of England, and none more so than the nervous, fussing, fragile but officious chairman of the council and magistrate, Brian Maitland.
When widowed new resident Louise Kingston announces the intention to operate a tea-room from her cottage, he is quick to rush round and begin fastidious inspections of the property and her plans. Finding her both younger and more attractive than he had imagined, Maitland is even more flustered than normal - and soon comes a cropper after accidentally sitting down upon a plate loaded with cream pastries!

The sudden further arrival in the village of Louise's adult daughters, Eve and Angela, could, therefore, not have come at a worse time...
