Finding himself at an army base somewhere in England, young aristocratic recruit Private Roy Desmond quickly falls in love with newly arrived A.T.S. girl Toni Beaumont.
Life on the base is odd to say the least, and certain other privates - particularly Randle, Young and Vincent - ensure there's always something bizarrely odd going on. Sergeant Korris is not much better, and Desmond soon befriends them all.
After performing at a concert party together, Roy invites the gang to all spend their upcoming leave with him at his family's estate. He's particularly keen to introduce Toni to his mother, but with her parents recently killed in the Blitz on London and a shock delivered from the family solicitor, she finds herself in quite a quandary.
