Simon Pegg and Nick Frost make a fine pair of sci-fi nerds. They play Brits in San Diego for a convention and general UFO spotting, and guess what: they find an actual alien. Paul, who looks like ET, has the voice of Seth Rogen and eats live birds. With the feds after him, the three embark on a wacky, often funny, Winnebago tour of sci-fi movie cliches.
Paul Howlett, The Guardian, 15th October 2016Paul: more or less as audience-friendly as it comes
This Simon Pegg and Nick Frost film without Edgar Wright may lack the ornate brilliance of The World's End director, but at least it's got real heart.
Stuart Heritage, The Guardian, 26th July 2014Ahead of Nick Frost shimmying on to the big screen in Cuban Fury, this is a reminder of how we came to love him: his double act with Simon Pegg.
Clearly aimed at 'breaking the States', it sees two girlfriendless geeks (Frost and Pegg) embark on a US road trip to Area 51.
Here they meet Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen), a potty-mouthed, dope-smoking alien who crash-landed on Earth and is now on the run from the US government's men in black.
A winning mix of fart gags and feel-good humour, with Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) giving the token female love interest role some memorable oompf as a one-eyed Christian fundamentalist.
