Upon the death of wealthy businessman William Briggs, his family are shocked to discover a peculiar stipulation in his will.

His son, Edwin, is to leave their large Mayfair mansion and invite the first person he meets selling the family business's product - Briggs' Matches - to live with them. If the stranger stays for at least 6 months then Edwin and his mother will each receive 50% of the significant W. Briggs estate.

However, if the guest leaves the family home for any reason before the 6 months are up, the estate will be divided between William's sister and extended family.

Naturally, each side is keen to outdo the other - and who should the first person be that Edwin meets on the street but matchseller Old Mother Riley and her daughter, Kitty...
