Paddington 4 confirmed
- A fourth Paddington movie will be in cinemas in 2028
- A new TV series is also in development, plus a Roblox game. Paddington: The Musical will launch in the West End in 2025
- The third film, Paddington In Peru, will be in cinemas from 8th November
With Paddington In Peru soon to be in cinemas, the producers have confirmed a fourth movie in the hit family-friendly franchise has been given the go-ahead.
Speaking at the Brand Licensing Europe convention in London, StudioCanal executive Françoise Guyonnet revealed: "We are working on a new TV series and a new movie to come in 2027, '28."
The Hollywood Reporter noted the news as the studio's executives were talking about "the ongoing journey of Paddington from a classic character to a worldwide cultural phenomenon."
Paddington Bear was created by Michael Bond in 1958 in the children's book A Bear Called Paddington. The character has since appeared in many novels and TV series, however it is the recent film franchise which has brought the world of Paddington to new audiences worldwide.
The first Paddington film - a big box office hit - was released in 2014, with Paddington 2 - one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time, with a rare 99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator - following in 2017.
The third film, Paddington In Peru, will be in cinemas from 8th November. The plot sees the central character returning to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. Paddington and the Brown family embark on an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru.
Ben Whishaw voices Paddington, with Imelda Staunton as Aunt Lucy. The cast list also includes Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent, with Antonio Banderas appearing as a character called Hunter Cabot, and Olivia Colman as The Reverend Mother.
Appearing at the industry conference yesterday, the StudioCanal team spoke about how 2024 has been a year "really focused around content, experiential and digital strategy to give the best exposure we can to Paddington".
The character now has a TikTok channel, and The Paddington Bear Experience has opened in London. A new Roblox game featuring Paddington will launch in November and, in 2025, Paddington: The Musical will launch in the West End, overseen by producer Sonia Freeman.
